Getting to know Julia Means

My mission is to provide you with the support needed to navigate life's challenges. My style is warm and curious, with a flexible, relational approach. I integrate evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as needed. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University, and I am licensed in both New York and New Jersey. I use a combination of evidence-based practices and genuine connection to propel our work forward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I incorporate several modalities (types of therapies) into my work, tailoring our time together so it will be most helpful for you. I don't use a one-sized fits all approach. Instead, I will employ a variety of methods including but not limited to: psychodynamic and supportive therapy, CBT, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive restructuring, and psychoeducation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am passionate about supporting you in your journey and helping you maintain emotional and mental wellness. My training has oriented me with a psychodynamic approach, meaning that I believe in the importance of exploring behavioral patterns and the impact the past may have had on present situations. However, I also work to make therapy useful in the short-term, so that you can find more immediate relief.

I’ve been seeing Julia for a while and I’ve never felt more heard in my life! She’s knowledgeable and present and you can tell she really cares. Highly recommend working with her
Julia is a highly compassionate, understanding therapist. She centered me in her work. She took her time learning everything about me,gathering my background and past experiences. I feel like she really had the focus of connecting with me, rather than checking me off of her list or trying to get new patients. She communicated every step of the way with me - meaning that frmo the time inquired meeting with her, to our full sessions, she made sure I knew what was happening, what was asked of me, and next steps. Julia is great if you need a therapist who will see you for who you are, and do deep work. Thanks Julia!
