Psychotherapist
3 Columbus Cir, 15th Fl, New York, NY
I’m a licensed psychotherapist with both passion and specialty in the treatment of eating disorders. I approach eating disorder therapy using treatments that are well-studied and grounded in research to support the best results for my clients. The work of eating disorder recovery is incredibly rewarding because the process moves swiftly, the improvement is both concrete and measurable and healing has such a profound impact on physical, emotional, and social health and well-being. Achieving a sense of calm and contentment may not be as far away as you think. I’m an active and collaborative clinician who works hard to help my clients forward. At the treatment start, we focus on getting a clear understanding of the factors that may be keeping you stuck in unproductive or unhealthy patterns. This insight and clarity are followed by establishing a clear treatment plan designed to unsettle problematic patterns and support swift movement forward. As we work through treatment, we will regularly evaluate how things are going and make adjustments wherever necessary to support steady progress. . I don’t believe the therapy should be infinite. Effective therapy helps you meet your goals so you can graduate (!) and move on to live life fully. I received my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Mercy College and my BA from Iona College. At St. Vincent’s Hospital, Westchester, NY, I provided group and individual therapy for individuals with moderate to severe mental illness and facilitated relapse prevention services for patients treated for substance abuse. Over years of building my career at Columbus Park, I’ve developed confidence & expertise in a wide range of evidence-based treatments including CBT-E, ACT, DBT Solution for Emotional Eating, CBT for ARFID, Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), and Adolescent DBT. I also completed both the Foundational and Advanced DBT training through Behavioral Tech, the premier training institute for DBT.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm a behavioral therapist which means that sessions will be focused on identifying and adapting behaviors that are interfering with physical health and peace of mind. I keep sessions focused because eating disorders are serious and pervasive conditions that can become ingrained if they persist over time. It takes full attention and effort to change behaviors so we don't want to get distracted. I believe in full recovery and a treatment with a beginning, middle and clear end.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first step is engagement and establishing a sense of safety and confidence in both the therapy and in the therapy relationship. Based on the concerns you bring to the work, I'll provide a clear recommendation for the therapy intervention and make sure that you understand the rationale and what to expect from the process. Of course, I want to make sure that you feel comfortable and confident in the chosen direction. There's a lot of mystery around the therapy process and often people think of it as a loose structure defined by lots of talking and exploring. When treating eating disorders, this cannot be the case - well, it can, but if it is, you won't get very far. Treatment for eating disorders should be specific, defined and focused. I use behavioral treatments that are grounded in science and proven to be effective. I will make sure that you feel great about the chosen intervention and that you're driving the process. Within just a few sessions, we'll be building momentum and constantly checking in on progress and how you're feeling about the process. If we get stuck, we identify the block immediately and figure out how to push through to stay on track. I love working with eating disorders in part because I get to see the remarkable transformation from the jail cell of the ED to the expansive freedom and opportunity of recovery.
