Psychologist
MN
Dr. Julie Peters is a Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the states of Colorado and Minnesota; she is also PsyPact certified. Julie received her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree from the University of Saint Thomas (Minneapolis, MN) in 2008. Dr. Peters worked in residential settings for children and adolescents struggling with complex trauma, abuse, and neglect for over 15 years. In 2018, Dr. Peters assisted in opening a Community Mental Health Center in Southern Minnesota, where she served as Director until moving to Colorado for another leadership role in a Day Treatment center. For the past three years, Dr. Peters has been in virtual private practice, serving children, adults, and veterans struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other disorders. My approach My approach to treatment is building a strong relationship with my clients in order to set a foundation to work together, in order to assist clients in becoming the best version of themselves. I have been told by clients that I am authentic and easy to talk to. Many clients who have struggled in the past and/or had negative experiences in therapy have expressed to me that this is the first time they have felt comfortable and/or willing to continue therapy. I like to take my time to get to know my clients and identify long-term and short-term goals. I have found that most clients have immediate needs, as well as long-term family and/or historical concerns they would like to address. I like to collaborate with my clients to identify the approach that works best for them. Some clients find success in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (learning the connection between thoughts/feelings/behavior and gaining an understanding of how their thoughts impact daily functioning/mental health). Other clients may find some success; however, they may also find success in expressive writing, exposure therapy, psychodynamic, and/or narrative therapy.
