Psychotherapist
VA
You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. I’m a trauma-informed therapist who works with adults navigating anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, difficult life experiences, and patterns that leave them feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unlike themselves. My goal is to help you better understand what’s happening beneath the surface, reconnect with yourself, and create meaningful changes that actually feel sustainable. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and holistic. I integrate person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness, attachment-based work, and nervous system-informed approaches based on your individual needs. I’m not here to simply sit back and listen or tell you how to live your life. Therapy with me is an active partnership where we explore patterns, build insight, develop practical tools, and work toward helping you feel more grounded and confident in yourself. Whether you’re dealing with the effects of past experiences, feeling exhausted from constantly holding everything together, or simply realizing that the way you’ve been surviving isn’t how you want to keep living, you deserve a space to slow down, understand yourself, and heal beyond survival mode.

Getting to know Dr. Kaila Laxa

You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is collaborative, supportive, and real. I’m not the type of therapist who will just sit quietly and ask, “How does that make you feel?” for an hour. I’ll listen, ask questions, help you recognize patterns, offer different perspectives, and give you practical tools you can use outside of our sessions. I also believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. We’ll work together to understand what you need, what’s keeping you stuck, and what meaningful change looks like for you. You can expect a space where you can show up as yourself, without feeling like you have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are focused on getting to know you, what brings you to therapy, and what you’d like to change. We’ll explore your experiences, current stressors, relationships, patterns, and the different factors that may be impacting how you feel today. From there, we’ll work together to identify goals and create an approach that fits you. As therapy progresses, we may explore deeper patterns, build healthier coping strategies, strengthen self-awareness, and work on creating changes that feel realistic and sustainable in your everyday life. I also check in along the way about what’s working, what isn’t, and what you need from me. Therapy isn’t meant to feel like something being done to you; it’s a collaborative process, and your voice matters throughout it.
