Dr. Karen Napack, PsyD, LMFT

Psychologist
CA
I have a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and a Doctorate in Psychology from the American Behavioral Research Institute, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. It is my belief that it is vital to lead life comfortably in one’s own body physically, spiritually, and emotionally. This includes exploring and learning the skills necessary to achieve good emotional and mental health. I enjoy collaborating with clients to find the right skills that will help them achieve their goals. My approach I utilize many different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Intergenerational Therapy, and Emotional Freedom Technique. I believe that one modality of therapy does not suit all clients and will collaborate with the client to determine the best approaches toward resolving their challenges. Often clients use outdated coping skills that worked for them years ago to resolve issues, and it is important to find the most effective coping skills that will work best for clients in the present. My focus I have extensively treated clients who have chemical dependency issues, and I am very comfortable with the challenges this type of clientele presents. Additionally, I have treated clients with anxieties, depression, work/life issues, and adult children of immigrants struggling between cultures. My communication style I have a gentle and direct style of communicating with my clients. It is important for me to listen, and I often summarize their statements and ask them if I am clear about what they have said. I have found that I learn more by asking pertinent questions. I strive to create a safe space in a non-judgmental environment and listen with respect and empathy.
