Karen Pei-Jung Hsieh, MHC, MS

Psychotherapist
14 Wall St, Ste 2035, New York, NY
As a mental health counselor working across community behavioral health and private practice settings, I help adults and couples navigate anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges, often alongside a deeper struggle with self-esteem and self-trust. In particular, I work with people of all backgrounds, with a focus on Mandarin-speaking and AAPI patients seeking culturally responsive care. Together, we'll work toward feeling more grounded in who you are, whether that means quieting an anxious mind, repairing a strained relationship, or simply believing you deserve to take up space. You can expect to feel more confident, connected, and at peace with yourself throughout our sessions, which are designed to meet you exactly where they are, without judgment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

DISCLAIMER: We are not accepting Medicare or Medicaid plans at this time. My path to becoming a therapist began after a decade-long career in a different field, where I learned firsthand how much our sense of self-worth shapes every part of our lives: our work, our relationships, and our resilience. Growing up with an Eastern mindset, one that valued presence and quiet self-reflection, gave me an early foundation for this work long before I had the clinical language for it. Together, these experiences deepened my commitment to helping you build genuine self-esteem and confidence. Having lived and worked across different countries and communities, I bring this cross-cultural, multilingual perspective to each session with you for whole-person healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I'm passionate about helping people build a relationship with themselves that's rooted in compassion rather than criticism, because I believe lasting change starts there. My approach is warm, direct, collaborative, and curious, drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based therapy, and psychodynamic work, to help you understand not just what you're struggling with, but why. Growing up with an Eastern mindset, shaped by Buddhist principles of presence, impermanence, and self-compassion, also influences how I show up with you in session, as a steady and honest partner in your growth, so therapy often feel less like a clinical checklist and more like a meaningful, reflective conversation.
