Getting to know Kassandra Mccune

Hello, it's so nice to meet you! I've been working in the mental health field since 2006 and am currently licensed to support clients in Massachusetts, Florida, Utah, Georgia, Virginia, and Vermont. My areas of specialty are anxiety, depression, trauma and relationships. I especially enjoy working with individuals that identify as women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and supporting my fellow equestrians. Life is hard and unpredictable - there is nothing wrong with you if you are struggling! I combine a genuine, therapeutic connection with evidence-based therapeutic interventions to get your healing journey started on the right foot. Your sense of felt safety and comfort is prioritized every step of the way in the therapeutic process. The therapeutic modalities I use most often are trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic-informed therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems and dialectical behavioral therapy. I am also trained in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy and ketamine assisted psychotherapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy starts with a gentle getting-to-know you process and is grounded in respect for your boundaries. The pace of treatment depends upon your comfort level, and you always have the option to say, "I don't want to talk about that." My approach is experiential in nature and throughout the process, I may invite you to feel the emotions we are talking about so that you can learn to cope with them with support. I enjoy working with clients who are looking to increase their sense of self-worth, deepen their relationships, and feel a sense of control over their lives. I explain interventions and suggest homework assignments in-depth and ground my techniques in research and clinical experience. I strongly believe in authenticity and the power of a truly connected therapeutic relationship. Progress in therapy is made of tiny moments of awareness and small steps toward healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our typical session starts with a check in on how you've been feeling, any distressing thoughts or events that occurred between sessions, or with any small or big wins that you'd like to celebrate. If you don't know exactly where to start that's okay too! The human condition is immensely complex, and there is much to explore. During the course of the session we will explore your various emotional states, increasing your ability to recognize them and understand your own emotional needs. We will examine thought processes that are particularly helpful or unhelpful, look for opportunities to reframe thoughts that are getting you down, and learn how to use cognitive coping skills. We will also look at the impact of your environment including potentially oppressive social or political structures, and dive deep into the quality of your relationships with yourself and others. As you get to know yourself better, we will adjust our goals to ensure that we are focused on what really matters to you. The past is always present in our body, our memories, and the very blueprint of our brain. Depending on your comfort level we may also spend some time exploring your past. But don't worry, we will work together to make sure you feel safe every step of the way.
