What should a new client know about working with you?

Through my experience as a therapist, I have learned that asking stimulating questions in a trusting, safe, non-judgmental space empowers people to process past experiences and understand how that history impacts relationships and decision making today. My approach to therapy is focused on a positive and collaborative therapeutic relationship and my belief that everyone has the ability to conquer their fears and overcome hardships. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri before obtaining a Masters in Drama Therapy from New York University. I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, as well as a Registered Drama Therapist. Additionally, I completed post-graduate training and master’s level certifications as a Child Life Specialist, and as a certified practitioner of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reciprocity) Therapy through EMDRIA. I have experience working in the clinical hospital setting as well as in the NYC school system and private practice. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques including psychodynamic, EMDR, CBT, relational therapy, and mindfulness practice. I am committed to acknowledging the experiences and needs of those who identify across all ethnic, gender/sexuality, and religious spectrums.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A past or current trauma can impact every area of your life. Whether you want to move on or just get through whatever is happening now, trauma can leave scars that are often difficult to heal on your own. If you’re here, you probably don’t want to feel burdened and upset anymore. EMDR helps people who experience PTSD and trauma including interpersonal violence, sexual assault, childhood trauma and complex trauma. EMDR is a research-backed trauma therapy that uses our understanding of neuroscience to change how our brain deals with traumatic memories and traumatic stress. It works by helping to reprocess traumatic memories to make them less emotionally intense and overwhelming. As a result, your body, emotions, and brain can heal after years of feeling disconnected and distressed. With the help of EMDR Therapy, you may notice that feelings that previously felt too intense or overwhelming have less of a hold over you. You may also notice your relationships with others improve, as well as an overall improved functioning in various areas of your life.
