Getting to know Katherine Ferrell

Hi, I’m Kate. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addictions Counselor based in Boulder, Colorado. I’m also a mom, a wife, an amateur baker, avid reader and passionate outdoor enthusiast. Throughout my life, I have been continuously working on my own path towards peace and healing. It is this journey that led me to become a therapist. Due to my own life experience, I believe that everyone is capable of change, growth and healing no matter their background or history. One of my greatest joys is to help others to recognize that they deserve and are capable of recovery. As a therapist, I approach each session with curiosity, warmth and empathy. I strive to identify areas of strength and growth at the start of treatment so that we can build a relationship built on trust and accountability. My therapeutic approach is based on an integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing that allows me to tailor treatment to each client. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in History and my Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Over the course of my career, I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment centers, community mental health programs and outpatient treatment programs. I have extensive experience providing individual, group, couples and family therapy to adults and adolescents. For the five years prior to starting my private practice, I served as the clinical director of a substance abuse treatment center in Colorado.
