Getting to know Kathleen Rose

I help individuals and couples bridge the gap between where they are, and where they want to be. I specialize in an integrative approach that treats the whole person, tailoring modalities that take into account your preferences, goals, and environment. This may include Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, or Somatic Therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that therapy is a mirror, and you should be able to trust what is reflected back to you, both that the reflection is accurate and that you feel comfortable using that reflection to make necessary changes in your actions, your opinions of yourself, or your environment. I strive to balance a gentle, nurturing reflection with honesty and respect in all conversations so that tough work can happen in a safe way. Above all, I want to get patients where they want to be without unnecessary pain or suffering along the way. I use an integrative approach that blends scientific, evidence-based modalities with warm, nurturing conversation. I understand how hard it can be to figure out what to say when you're in a therapy room looking at your life, and I often ask many questions to see what we uncover within your answers. I prefer a non-linear approach to therapy that allows us to bounce between past experiences, present beliefs, and future goals in order to treat the whole person. I much prefer when the conversation feels natural and collaborative. The best work happens when the fit is mutual, when you feel at home with my style, and I feel we can exchange the kind of candid insight that leads to real growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At the start of therapy, we will take time to understand your goals, what you’ve tried in the past, and what has (or hasn’t) been effective. As a clinician, I view my role "in the room" as a guide. I am there to assist you in walking through conversations, memories, and aspirations that feel unapproachable alone. Often, that means asking questions that inspire deeper thought, or offering reflections that allow you to see a problem from a new angle. I don't think the patient should bear the sole responsibility of steering the entire conversation and because of this I make it a priority to ask a lot of questions and spend time looking at thoughts, opinions, and beliefs in depth. In general, I think it's best practice to offer space for a patient to talk about what's been going on in their day-to-day life, but not allow the weekly ups and downs to distract from the bigger goals. As a therapist, I am intentional about balancing big-picture goals with daily struggles so that you can see yourself move beyond where you're stuck and get to where you want to be. I value feedback and check in regularly, I believe it brings more depth to our work together. My main goal is to support you on your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery. I'm dedicated to providing client-centered, collaborative care that fits your unique needs.
