Getting to know Katie Liang

If you feel like you’ve hit the lowest point in your life, the simple act of seeking help is proof that you’re still fighting for yourself and your peace. Let’s speak to that part of you. My name is Katie (she/her). I am a bilingual (Chinese Cantonese) mental health counselor (MHC-LP). I completed my studies in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, MA, from the College of Staten Island, and Psychology, BA from Hunter College. I have met with individuals across the lifespan, ranging from young adolescence to end of life, in outpatient centers, and community-based clinics. My clinical experience includes supporting individuals diagnosed with multiple chronic mental health illnesses, depression, anxiety, test anxiety, grief and loss, panic, obsessions and compulsions, attention-deficit/hyperactivity, and neurological diagnoses. I've also met with individuals undergoing significant life transitions, relational connection, long distance relationship difficulties, self-esteem, career, and identity. As an Asian American, first-generation college graduate, and the eldest daughter of immigrant parents, I deeply empathize with difficulties in balancing family, cultural expectations, and personal identity. I employ culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, utilizing empirically-based tools tailored to the individual. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and mindfulness. My primary goal is to foster a safe space where you feel understood and supported. Starting your healing journey can be a meaningful step forward. When you feel ready, I invite you to reach out to take that next step.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Over the years, I have met with individuals across the lifespan, ranging from young adolescence to end of life, in outpatient centers, and community-based clinics. My clinical experience includes supporting individuals diagnosed with co-occurring chronic mental health illnesses, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, test anxiety, panic, obsessions and compulsions, attention-deficit/hyperactivity, and neurological diagnoses. I've also met with individuals undergoing significant life transitions, relational connection, long distance difficulties, self-esteem, career, and identity. As an Asian American, first-generation college graduate, and the eldest daughter of immigrant parents, I deeply empathize with difficulties in balancing family, cultural expectations, and personal identity. I employ culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, utilizing empirically based tools tailored to the individual. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and mindfulness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative, judgement-free, and focused on supporting your overall mental wellbeing. Sessions are weekly 50-60 minutes. In a typical session, we discuss what's been on your mind or coming up for you. As a team, we establish goals, and work through any challenges that may arise. I hope to foster a safe space where you feel understood and supported. I offer both in person and telehealth sessions. Starting your healing journey can be a meaningful step forward. When you feel ready, I invite you to reach out to take that next step.
