Getting to know Kayla Irrer

Welcome to Discreet Online Counseling! My name is Kayla, and I’m honored to support you on your journey toward growth and healing. I am a licensed Social Worker with over 18 years of experience in the mental health field, working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Saginaw Valley State University. I am a certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) therapist and have extensive experience in behavior modification, anger management, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. On a personal note, I’m married to my husband, Matthew, and we have two wonderful boys. Our summers are often spent outdoors—either on the baseball field or relaxing at our family cottage. I look forward to getting to know you and walking alongside you in this process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I will work alongside you to help identify your goals and build on your strengths. My approach is compassionate, direct when needed, and tailored to your unique needs. I integrate evidence-based practices—such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), behavior modification techniques, and mindfulness strategies—depending on what best supports your progress. I strive to offer a calm, supportive presence and practical tools to help you navigate your journey. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and comfortable opening up. I understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and I will meet you exactly where you are—with patience, empathy, and care Together, we’ll navigate the challenges you're facing, build resilience, and work toward meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you—your story, your strengths, and what brings you to therapy. In our first few sessions, we’ll focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship and identifying your goals. I want to understand what matters most to you and what you'd like to work toward. From there, I tailor our work together based on your needs, using evidence-based approaches like Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), behavior modification strategies, and mindfulness techniques. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, I’ll provide tools and support to help you manage challenges and build resilience. Throughout our time together, I check in regularly to make sure our work feels meaningful and effective. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I encourage open communication so we can make adjustments as needed to best support your growth.
