Getting to know Dr. Keith Gunnerson

At times, it can feel like the challenges of life can be overwhelming. Perhaps you are enduring a season of worry, sadness, or isolation. If so, I would like to help. My goal in counseling is for you to feel free to address difficulties in any part of your life and to do that in a safe and productive way. Whether you want to address a specific concern or more generally live a richer life, I would be happy to support you. My approach I engage in evidence-based practices with clients and consider my clients’ unique situations as we progress. I use Client-Centered therapy to create a space where every client can authentically show up in session and address anything that may be interfering with their life without fear of judgment. I take a two-pronged approach to treatment. The first prong of treatment is collaboratively identifying what can be done in the present to begin working toward goals and/or feeling relief. The second prong is exploring more deeply the reasons that the difficulty arose in the first place to address the problem at its root. My focus My generalist training allows me to support clients facing a variety of difficulties. I have experience in supporting individuals struggling with multiple difficulties, including depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, OCD, faith-related concerns, addiction, etc. Every client is unique in the experiences they have, and there is no one-size-fits-all in counseling. I focus on you, not your diagnosis, to make sure we are addressing what matters most. As part of my doctoral training, I engaged in research investigating how a client’s religious identity can impact their mental health. If you would like, I welcome the chance to discuss how your religious views may influence your life as well. My communication style My approach to communication in treatment is based on transparency. It's only fair that if I'm expecting you to be open with me, I provide you with the same courtesy.
