Getting to know Kellie Zundel

Maybe you’re the person everyone counts on. You’re thoughtful, capable, and deeply caring, but you can be much harder on yourself than you would ever be on someone you love. Your mind rarely seems to turn off. You replay conversations, second-guess decisions, worry about disappointing people, or put enormous pressure on yourself to get things right. Rest can be difficult when there’s always something you feel you should be doing. Food and your body may take up more space in your mind than you want them to. A picture, the mirror, what you ate, or how your clothes fit can affect how you feel about yourself. Or maybe you’ve gotten very good at staying busy, accomplishing things, and taking care of everyone else while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected underneath. You may understand exactly why some of these patterns exist and still feel frustrated that knowing hasn’t changed how you feel. I specialize in working with adults navigating eating disorders, body image, trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, and self-worth. I especially love working with thoughtful, deeply feeling people who are ready to understand themselves in a different way and stop measuring their worth by how much they accomplish, how they look, or how well they take care of everyone around them. You’ve spent a lot of time paying attention to everything outside of you. Therapy can be a place to finally make more room for you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy should feel like a relationship, not a performance. You don’t need to come into our sessions with the right words, a perfectly organized story, or even know what you want to talk about that day. You can bring in something you’ve been thinking about all week, something that happened five minutes before our session, or simply tell me you have no idea where to start. We’ll figure it out together. I care about creating a relationship where you can be honest, ask questions, laugh, cry, change your mind, and show up as yourself. I’m interested in getting to know you as a whole person, not reducing what you’re experiencing to a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. This work is meaningful to me personally, too. I know what it’s like to put pressure on yourself, question whether you’re doing enough, and look outside of yourself for answers about who you should be. I also know how powerful it can be to begin turning some of that attention inward. I’ve spent years helping people develop a more peaceful relationship with themselves, and I’ve seen how much can change. My hope is that our work helps you become more comfortable trusting what you feel, what you need, and who you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll start by getting to know what’s bringing you to therapy and what you most want to be different. You don’t have to tell me your entire life story in the first session. We can move at a pace that feels manageable and start with what feels most important to you. As we work together, we’ll pay attention to both what’s happening in your life now and the experiences that may have shaped the way you respond to yourself, relationships, stress, food, your body, or difficult emotions. Sometimes you may need space to talk something through and make sense of it. Other times, you may already understand a pattern completely and still find yourself stuck in it. When it’s helpful, I integrate EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help us work more deeply with experiences and emotional patterns that haven’t shifted through insight alone. Our work will be collaborative. I’ll bring my experience and training, but I don’t believe I know you better than you know yourself. We’ll pay attention to what is actually helping, adjust when something isn’t, and keep coming back to what matters to you. Over time, the goal is for what happens in therapy to show up in your everyday life: trusting your decisions more, recognizing what you need, responding to yourself with less criticism, and feeling freer to live in a way that feels genuinely like you.
