Getting to know Kelly Tobin

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, practicing in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. I graduated from Hunter College--Silberman School of Social Work in New York City in 2014. Since graduating, I moved back to my home state of South Dakota where I have worked at the Department of Veteran's Affairs as a social worker in several areas including Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Caregiver Support. While I specialize in working with the veteran and military communities and their families, many of the same issues they face affect the civilian population as well. Some of my areas of expertise are behavior change and health coaching (tobacco cessation, being physically active, eating healthy, limiting alcohol use, etc), anxiety and depression, navigating relational stressors, managing stress, and preventing caregiver burnout. My background and training has focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused therapy, and Strength Based Therapy. I believe that we are the experts of ourselves and often have the answers to solve our own issues, and that therapy can help guide you to solve the problems you face. In my free time, I like to be outside and to travel, specifically going new places where the temperature is above 50 degrees. Reading a book in the sunshine, with a good cup of coffee helps to relax me. I am the happiest when I am with my family, friends, and my dog.
