Psychotherapist
VA
Starting therapy is a big step and I believe it’s important to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable being yourself. I have a special interest in working with adults navigating substance use and the ways it intersects with mental health, trauma, relationships, and other major life domains. I approach substance use from a trauma-informed and harm reduction perspective, recognizing that people use substances for many different reasons and that change does not happen in a straight line. Whether your goal is abstinence, reducing or changing your substance use, understanding patterns that may be getting in the way of the life you want, or simply having a space to talk openly about your relationship with substances, I’ll meet you where you are and work with you to identify what feels meaningful and realistic. I also work with adults navigating depression, anxiety, difficult or painful past experiences, and questions about identity, belonging, and purpose. My approach is collaborative and flexible, drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we’ll work together to understand what you hope to get out of therapy and develop a plan that fits your needs, values, and circumstances. My hope is that therapy helps you feel more grounded, connected to yourself, and better equipped to build a life that feels meaningful to you.
