Getting to know Khana Kleyn

Khana hails from Russia, Colorado, and New York. She has an excellent sense of humor that is counterbalanced by her deep, existential views on life and its processes. Khana specializes in trauma processing, attention disorders, grief counseling, chronic illness support, and family therapy, including marriage, divorce, and coparenting. She is also qualified to provide therapeutic supervised visits and evaluations for learning disabilities and neurodiversity. Khana is experienced and very comfortable working with survivors of emotional, sexual, and physical violence, as well as those recovering from narcissistic relationships. Mental health can affect all areas of life, and Khana is skilled in identifying what is stopping individuals from progressing to the next stage in their careers and personal lives. Her approach to therapy is to create organic dialogue and genuine trust between therapist and patient. Khana excels in person-centered care, active listening, and validation of the extreme suffering we humans endure throughout our lives. After exploring the components that make up an individual, and when the patient feels safe and heard, Khana gently and carefully guides them in rewriting their life narratives toward strength and resilience. Khana holds a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University, Post.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Khana’s modalities of choice are DBT - helping individuals rediscover the value in themselves, as well as logotherapy - finding purpose and meaning in one’s experiences, both negative and positive. Khana attended LIU CW POST to receive her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. She has also undergone extensive clinical training with the underprivileged/high risk population. Khana is diagnosed with ADHD herself, suffers from chronic illness; she has been married for almost two decades, and is the parent of three children. Khana’s range of life experience helps her view the patients’ world through a realistic lens, and with sincere empathy. Khana works with people of all ages and backgrounds.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Patients usually reach and we set up a mutually acceptable payment plan and appointment. Upon arrival, I will escort the patient to my office. I begin the session by offering light refreshments to my patents after which I will jump right into what symptoms they are experiencing and what made them reach out for help. The rest of the session occurs organically through conversation and includes psychoeducation, strategically shared personal experiences, reflection and validation. I can provide letters of accommodation for work/support animals, as well as written evaluations and therapeutic supervised visits.
