Kimberly Christopher, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Kimberly Christopher is a licensed psychotherapist offering private psychotherapy, EMDR therapy, and integrative online therapy for adults and couples across New York State, including New York City. Her work is designed for high-functioning professionals, creatives, and individuals who appear composed externally yet feel internally stuck—navigating anxiety, emotional reactivity, burnout, relationship challenges, or the lingering impact of unresolved experiences. With nearly two decades of clinical experience and graduate training from New York University, Kimberly brings a depth-oriented, neuroscience-informed approach that moves beyond traditional talk therapy. She integrates psychodynamic psychotherapy with EMDR, somatic therapy, and parts-based work (often referred to as an “EMDR+” approach), allowing for deeper processing at both the cognitive and nervous system level. Many of the individuals she works with have engaged in prior therapy and are seeking something more effective—work that addresses patterns at their root rather than managing symptoms on the surface. Her work with couples focuses on identifying and shifting relational dynamics, improving communication, and helping partners move out of repetitive cycles of conflict, distance, or misunderstanding. Kimberly offers a highly personalized, private therapeutic experience with a strong emphasis on discretion, flexibility, and depth. Sessions are conducted via secure telehealth, providing consistent, confidential care throughout New York.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel like a significant step—especially if you’ve already done meaningful work and are unsure what more there is to uncover. My approach is both structured and intuitive. I pay close attention not only to what you’re experiencing, but to the underlying patterns shaping those experiences—often outside of conscious awareness. We don’t stay at the level of insight alone. Our work focuses on helping your mind and nervous system process what has remained unresolved, so that change feels natural rather than forced. You won’t be rushed or pushed into a one-size-fits-all approach. Sessions are collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you. At times, the work is exploratory and reflective; at others, it is more active and focused, especially when using modalities such as EMDR. Many clients come in feeling composed on the outside but internally overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to shift. Over time, the goal is not simply to manage these experiences, but to change your relationship to them—so you can move through your life with greater clarity, steadiness, and ease.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are conversational, but not unstructured. We begin with what feels most present or relevant—whether that’s something from your week, a recurring pattern, or a deeper emotional experience that’s beginning to surface. From there, we follow the thread. At times, this looks like thoughtful exploration—making sense of patterns, relationships, or internal dynamics. At other times, the work becomes more focused and experiential, particularly when using approaches such as EMDR or somatic-based techniques, where we work directly with how experiences are held in the nervous system. There is a natural rhythm to the work. Some sessions feel reflective and expansive; others are more active and targeted. Over time, the aim is to move beyond understanding into real shifts—where emotional responses, reactions, and long-standing patterns begin to change in a noticeable way. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to you. The pace is intentional, allowing for depth without overwhelm.
