Getting to know Kristen Quinones

Hello and welcome to NY City Psychotherapy! I am Kristen Quinones, LCSW, owner and lead therapist at the practice. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University and my Bachelor’s from the State University of New York, Binghamton. I became a therapist because I am passionate about working with others to strengthen their mental health, sense of self, and ability to live life authentically. This work empowers clients to change how they manage anxiety, engage in relationships, and relate to themselves. I utilize an eclectic approach so that sessions are uniquely tailored to your needs. However, my style of practice is very engaging and interactive, pulling from psychodynamic (let’s make connections, reflect, and talk relationships) and dialectical behavioral (let’s learn how to regulate emotions and change the way we cope and relate) therapies. Therapy with me will involve learning cognitive (thought-based) and somatic (body-based) skills so that you can target your anxiety from every angle. I currently work with individuals and groups. I specialize in Anxiety, OCD, Panic, and Abandonment Trauma. My clients are 18 years old and older, residing in NY and FL. If you are feeling overwhelmed by your anxiety and are ready to learn new ways to cope and find relief, then therapy with me may be the right fit for you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

*PLEASE NOTE: All sessions are private pay. The practice does not accept insurances. We can submit claims to your insurance for out-of-network benefits reimbursement on your behalf through a platform called Mentaya-free of charge- or send you Superbill receipts if you prefer to personally submit claims. . If you do not receive a welcome email right away, please check your spam folder.* Therapy is hard work. There are going to be sessions that bring up difficult feelings. In therapy with me, I am here to support you through that work. I will give you the space to feel what comes up. I won't leave you feeling alone in it. We will explore what is going on for you, make important connections, and formulate a plan in how to help you cope. Sessions with me are interactive and collaborative in this way. Clients who work with me often want help in coping with unmanageable anxiety, conflict and boundary setting avoidance, low self esteem, fears of abandonment, compulsive reassurance seeking in relationships, intrusive thoughts, or panic attacks. If these issues resonate with you, please reach out.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your relationship to your therapist is a unique one, and you should be selective. It has to feel right. From our first session onward we will take time to build the trust that is necessary for strong therapeutic work. Sessions will often explore underlying causes of anxiety while also teaching skills for better emotional regulation. Feelings are felt in the body. I won't just teach cognitive strategies for coping. I will pair them with somatic practices so that you can practice targeting anxiety from both sides (the mental and physical) and work on starting to feel a greater sense of control in your ability to manage symptoms and move through life with more ease and grace.
