Kristi Ebsen, LCSW

Psychotherapist
MI
I bring a pragmatic and logical approach to therapy, emphasizing balance in personal development. My style focuses on guiding individuals who are committed to healing themselves from the ground up. Together, we can work towards fostering qualities such as confidence without arrogance and resilience without inflexibility. My approach is grounded in humility, recognizing the importance of being “salt of the earth” in my practice. In addition to offering solid advice, I utilize a unique therapeutic style that incorporates the principles of alchemy, which I describe as "alchemistry." This involves holding the energy necessary for your healing process, focusing on integrity, truth, compassion, and forgiveness. By drawing upon the divine feminine and ancient wisdom, I assist in weaving together the fragmented aspects of your being. I work with individuals aged 12 and up who demonstrate a commitment to their healing journey. Respect and cooperation are fundamental; I value a collaborative relationship where energy is mutually invested in the therapeutic process. I am fully trained in a variety of evidence-based therapies, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, somatic therapies, attachment theory, psychodynamic approaches, and motivational interviewing, ensuring a comprehensive toolbox to support your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a straightforward therapist who speaks the truth. Growing up on a farm taught me to be honest from a young age. My humble beginnings in rural Nebraska have shaped my down-to-earth approach. If you want to learn the truth about yourself, you're in the right place, and you might discover it's better than you think. At 18, I experienced the benefits of psychotherapy and believed, “If I can help someone like my therapist helped me, my life would have meaning.” I went to Hastings College in Nebraska on a basketball scholarship, but after my second year, I wanted a change. I transferred to the University of Northern Colorado and graduated with Honors, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After college, I joined the Peace Corps and served in the Dominican Republic for over three years. After the Peace Corps I traveled for 6 months in South America, studying shamanism. When I got back to the states I worked for the United Way of Miami-Dade fund raiser, and decided to go get my MSW so I could be a therapist. All of my experiences helped me earn a merit scholarship from the University of Michigan, where I got my Masters in Clinical Social Work in 2003. I have over 20 years of experience as a clinician, working in different counseling environments with people from various backgrounds and types of trauma. Now I have a LCSW in the states of: California, New Mexico, Arizona, New York, and Michigan. I have been trained in several evidenced based therapies, and certified in EMDR through EMDRIA. I strive to become the best version of myself by exploring new experiences. I became a certified yoga instructor at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in 2005 I volunteered in Sri Lanka during the summer of 2006, and completed extensive meditation training while living in a Buddhist temple for over four years; studying to be a Buddhist priest. I also studied Native American tools and beliefs, completing a Vision Quest in 2023 and being honored with an Eagle Feather in 2024.
