Psychotherapist
MI
You’re constantly overthinking, second-guessing yourself, and feeling responsible for how everyone else feels. Even when you try to set boundaries, the guilt creeps in. I’m Kymberly, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the therapist behind The Rooted Therapist MI. I work with adults who feel stuck in these patterns, especially those who grew up in environments where their emotional needs were not fully seen, understood, or supported. Many of my clients were raised by emotionally immature or emotionally unavailable caregivers, where they learned to manage others’ emotions while pushing their own aside. Now, it shows up as anxiety, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting themselves, and feeling stuck in relationships that don’t feel good. In our work together, we focus on helping you understand these patterns at the root so you can stop repeating them. My approach is honest, down-to-earth, and supportive. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out. We focus on creating real, lasting change so you can feel more confident, clear, and at peace in your relationships and within yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is both supportive and direct. I’m not a “just sit and nod” therapist, but I’m also not here to push you faster than you’re ready. If you’ve spent much of your life taking care of others emotionally, feeling responsible for how others feel, or questioning your own needs, our work will focus on helping you reconnect with yourself in a way that feels safe and realistic. You can expect a space where your experiences are taken seriously, your patterns are explored with curiosity (not judgment), and you’re gently challenged when needed. I help you connect the dots between your past and present so things start to make more sense. I integrate attachment-based work and nervous system awareness to help reduce anxiety, quiet overthinking, and rebuild self-trust. The goal is to help you feel more steady, clear, and confident in yourself and your relationships. You don’t have to come in knowing exactly what to say. We’ll figure it out together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is focused on getting to know you. We’ll talk through what’s bringing you in, your background, and what you’re hoping will feel different in your life. You don’t need to prepare anything, just show up as you are. From there, sessions typically involve a mix of processing current experiences, exploring underlying patterns, and building practical tools you can use in your day-to-day life. We often explore how early relationships shaped the way you relate to others, especially if you learned to prioritize others’ emotions over your own. Over time, the goal is to help you: understand your patterns instead of feeling controlled by them feel more confident setting boundaries without guilt reduce overthinking and emotional overwhelm build a stronger sense of self-trust Sessions are collaborative and tailored to you. Some days may be more reflective, while others are more focused on tools and strategies, depending on what you need.
