Life happens; the effects of loss vary; and the impacts of stress/trauma are more ‘normal’ than most people realize. You are not alone; your struggles are real; and your mental wellness is and should be treated with as much vigor as your need for food and shelter. It is natural for our bodies to want to heal themselves; and our human strength and natural behavior is to adapt and evolve. We develop negative coping skills as we adapt to stress/trauma, grief/loss, major life changes/transitions, chronic illness/pain, identity struggles, and relationship conflicts. Through supportive, strengths-based, values-driven, authentic and engaging counseling, I hope to help you move through your pain to find renewed hope, healing, and empowerment for your future. I hope you will take the first step in your journey to restore balance by reaching out to us today at 844-41-HOPES (46737) or visit us online.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Hi. I’m Jenae (jeh-NAY) and my preferred pronouns are she/her or they/them. I am the Owner/Director and primary therapist at Hope’s Horizon Counseling Services, LLC. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Walla Walla University, a Master of Science in Thanatology (the study of death/grief) from Marian University, a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration from Baker College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications and Business Administration from Bushnell University. I am independently licensed in Alaska, Arkansas, Maine, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Washington. I am additionally classified as a Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS) in the State of Washington and can supervise candidates for licensure in both Alaska and Washington. I am a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist (CAGCS), a Certified Family Trauma Professional (CFTP), a Board-Certified Telehealth Provider (BCTP-II), a Military-Focused Care Professional, and am Certified in Brainspotting (BSP-C). Additionally, I am formally trained by the IFS Institute in Internal Family Systems (IFS) work (and continuing my journey for formal certification).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I consider myself a Solution-Focused Therapist (SFT), meaning we focus on finding the strengths and solutions you already have within yourself (often a re-discovery process). I also consider myself an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist who specializes in Brainspotting (BSP-C) and Psychoeducation. My approach depends on my client’s comfort level with each method and their individual need each session. As mentioned above, I specialize in grief/loss and trauma. Additionally, I specialize in serving individuals who struggle with addiction, chronic illness, life transitions, relationship issues, women’s issues, and sexual identity and sexuality. My specialty populations are active/retired First Responders (i.e., law enforcement; nurses; military members, veterans, and their families; etc.), individuals who identify as queer or LGBTQIA2S+, individuals who suffer from spiritual trauma, adolescents (ages 13 and older, due to the nature of telehealth/online services), and Alaskan Natives/Native Americans (AN/NA).
