Laura Aydlette, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
You don’t have to have everything figured out to start therapy. I work with adults and teens who often look capable on the outside, but internally feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. You might be overthinking, struggling with thoughts that won’t leave you alone, navigating a complicated relationship, or maybe, wondering if ADHD is part of the picture. My approach is thoughtful, relational, and grounded. I integrate evidence-based therapy with a holistic lens, including nervous system regulation, practical tools, and (if it’s important to you) your faith. My goal is to help you understand yourself more clearly, feel more at peace, and move toward the life you actually want to be living.

Getting to know Laura Aydlette

You don’t have to have everything figured out to start therapy. I work with adults and teens who often look capable on the outside, but internally feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. You might be overthinking, struggling with thoughts that won’t leave you alone, navigating a complicated relationship, or maybe, wondering if ADHD is part of the picture. My approach is thoughtful, relational, and grounded. I integrate evidence-based therapy with a holistic lens, including nervous system regulation, practical tools, and (if it’s important to you) your faith. What should a new client know about working with you?

I tend to bring a calm, grounded presence into sessions, so you don’t have to feel on edge or like you need to have everything together. At the same time, I show up as a real person—not overly clinical or distant. My goal is for you to feel like you can be yourself here, without overthinking how you’re coming across or trying to say the “right” thing. I’m engaged and intentional in sessions. I’ll ask questions, notice patterns, and help you make sense of what’s going on, while also giving you space to process at your own pace. We’ll focus on what’s bringing you in, but also look at the bigger picture—how you tend to think, respond, and relate to others. And I like therapy to actually be useful, so along with insight, we’ll work on practical ways to handle anxiety, relationships, boundaries, or ADHD-related challenges in your day-to-day life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is about getting a clear understanding of you as a whole person—not just the problem that brought you in. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, but also look at patterns, relationships, stress, and how you tend to respond to things. You don’t need to have everything figured out—I’ll guide the conversation so we can start making sense of it together. From there, we’ll create a direction that fits you. Most clients start with weekly sessions, especially in the beginning, so we can build momentum and start seeing real shifts. Sessions are calm and conversational, but also intentional. We’ll connect patterns, slow things down when needed, and focus on practical ways to handle what you’re dealing with—whether that’s anxiety, boundaries, relationships, or ADHD-related challenges. Over time, the goal is for you to feel more steady, more clear, and more confident navigating things on your own—not just in session, but in your day-to-day life.
