NJ
Laura Dennis is a “Marriage & Family Therapist" and their license number is 37FI00217800. Are you constantly running in circles getting nowhere, exhausted because you've tried every avenue to feel heard? Are you losing connection with your loved ones and feeling stuck? Often this disconnect contributes to our own anxieties, worries, and loneliness. Without connection we are merely surviving and perpetuating the idea that we have to experience this life on our own. We may even be surrounded by our loved ones and still feel disconnected to it all. With a long history of working with individuals, families, and couples struggling to repair or deepen their connection with the world around them, I have found an experiential way in reconnecting our bonds through the lens of attachment. In learning to be present with our emotions, and thoughts we can come to understand the ways in which we have guarded ourselves from others, when all we long for is connection.

Getting to know Laura Dennis

With a long history of working with individuals, families, and couples struggling to repair or deepen their connection with the world around them, I have found an experiential way in reconnecting our bonds through the lens of attachment. What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with clients on a weekly and biweekly basis to ensure you're making progress towards your goals in reconnecting with one another, repairing a rupture, or deepening your understanding with the struggles you are having to connect with yourself or others. Through the attachment lens we can build a bond together that sustains a lifetime.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I ask you to come into this space with a dedication to the process and nothing else. Often times we come here with a decision to make or an agenda in mind. I want to make clear what process is getting in the way of you and your partners ability to connect with one another. Once we calm down that process, then we’ll do some more work on how you can implement these things outside of this space at home. Family and Couples therapy is recommended to be 8 to 12 weeks long depending on the circumstances that bring you to this space. Couples work: EFT supports awareness in the dance that leaves you feeling stuck. Helping you claim your own feelings and how you may shape your partners feelings in return. It will create safe spaces at home where you can turn to your partner and express deeper emotions that were not expressed prior due to fear. It will reconnect you and your partner so that there is accessibility, responsiveness, and emotional engagement that sustains your commitment to one another. Family therapy can support breaking down barriers and patterns that leave family members feeling anxious with our day to day interactions. It will create a empathetic space to gain awareness into our children’s views, feelings and thoughts. Along with exploring how we show up for our children and create secure attachments. Individual therapy is scripted to each individual I serve. For sustained change, it is recommended to meet weekly or biweekly for 8 to 12 weeks. Sessions are 55 minutes. Individual therapy is targeted with concrete goals to help you become your authentic self through the Emotionally Focused Individual Therapuetic (EFIT) lens. This is partnered with the long standing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and tools taught from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
