Life is hard, and it doesn't seem to be getting easier for anyone. Psychotherapy can be a lifeline on the path of healing from the past, coping with the present, and charting a course towards a future you want to live in. Therapeutic techniques are many and varied, but the biggest factor typically comes down to the relationship between the client and therapist. A good match is essential. The right therapist for anyone begins by providing a safe and comfortable environment for the client, so they can openly share their inner world, and speak thoughts and feelings that are hard to share with friends and family, who frequently are biased and have their own agendas. Much of the power of therapy comes from hearing oneself say aloud what has long been hidden inside. I earned an MSW in 1996, and am licensed at the LCSW level. Thirty years of professional experience includes work in community mental health agencies, probation, prison, schools, and home health agencies. I have also been credentialed as a School Psychologist. My personal background is quite varied and includes involvement in the arts and a love of animals and nature. Recent clients who have been successful working with me have commented on my compassion and emphasis on gently nudging them to focus on the goals they have set, with redirection and information as needed. Clients have told me that I helped them to gain the awareness and insight they needed to “forgive and accept” themselves, and move on. My clients have successfully used tools to work through trauma and grief, improve social skills and self-esteem, cope with depression and anxiety, make better decisions, and increase their emotional stability. I use a variety of strategies and techniques, but success always comes back to the relationship.
