“I saw Laura consistently for over three years, and she truly changed my life. She helped me recognize patterns I wasn’t aware of and gave me the courage, resilience, and strength to move beyond. I’ve also worked with her through deeply traumatic situations, and her grounded, real approach always helped me see things from a new perspective. Many of the hardest but most meaningful changes I’ve made—and some of my best qualities today—were shaped with her insight. EMDR with her is pure magic; even years later, I’m still shocked by how my nervous system responds to what once a trigger/ trauma that felt debilitating vs. now as it moves through me like a passing thought. She’s so good that when my insurance was downgraded, I came back and paid out of pocket to keep working with her. Would recommend her to any and everyone!”

Getting to know Laura Miceli

Hi. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic Privilege. I earned my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from The Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University and have experience working with a wide variety of symptoms and struggles. My primary goal in our first few sessions is to build a strong therapeutic alliance. This is the most fundamental part of therapy. I believe that no progress can be made without feeling emotionally safe, seen, and heard. I tailor my approach in therapy sessions to your own specific needs. My specialties are Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I typically use a combination of these three approaches to help you gain deeper insight into your struggles and develop healthier coping mechanisms for life stressors that inevitably come our way. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an incredibly effective way to relearn how to regulate emotions. In addition, I often utilize DBT to assist with strengthening interpersonal skills, such as setting healthier boundaries and increasing assertiveness, which can help improve self-esteem. EMDR is primarily used to treat trauma responses to past events or memories that we cannot seem to shake on our own. EMDR can reduce symptoms significantly faster than traditional talk therapy, and I have a lot of experience using this to foster change. I have experience treating Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymic Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Family Issues, Addictions, Body Image Struggles, Anger Management, Personality Disorders, Grief Counseling, and Stress Management.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a strong relational/humanistic approach to therapy and typically have long-term relationships with clients. My style may feel more like a conversation than a traditional "blank screen" model in standard psychotherapy. This allows me to build a strong therapeutic alliance as I try to instill a sense of comfort in the process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will conduct a full psychosocial assessment on our first consultation to get a basic sense of who you are and your recent struggles. We will also collaborate to identify a goal plan that will be revisited periodically to ensure you are satisfied with your therapy and progress. After the initial sessions, the therapy process will become more routine as we start to work on the goals set in the initial sessions.

I highly recommend Laura. She not only listens to you but works with you in such a way that you clearly understand why everything is the way it is. I look forward to every session.
Laura is the most genuine and down to earth therapist I have ever met. She is always thinking of new ways to challenge her clients and cares so much about each individual that she works with. Laura is extremely professional, insightful, and caring.
Laura is an experienced and fantastic therapist. She empathizes and meets you where you are. Out of all the therapists I have worked with, she has the highest awareness, and because of this she is able to navigate an individual through most any situation. I am better having worked with her.
Laura was an understanding and compassionate therapist who helped me to understand how my past behaviors were negatively impacting my life. She helped me to develop tools that I utilized to decrease stress and make needed changes.
I found Laura to be a compassionate, caring, and thoughtful therapist who took the time to listen to my concerns and respond without judgement. She pointed out some blind spots that had been contributing to my anxiety, but encouraged me to work at my own pace to address them. Throughout my treatment with Laura, I always felt one hundred percent supported. Highly recommend!
Laura has helped/ guided me to learn more about myself. I understand where my anxieties stemmed from and know how to control it. This has been a life changing experience.
Talking with Laura is so great because I never feel like I am talking to a person who is being paid to talk to me. You can tell she genuinely cares, and it so refreshing to talk to someone who doesn't read from the typical '"so what hear you saying is…" script. She always talks to me like am a person. For the first time in my life, can say that am enjoying therapy because of Laura.
Laura has been wonderful. She is always professional and supportive. She helped me manage my anxiety which I have been battling for years. She gave me a good perspective on my issues and helped me to use my skills.
