Psychologist

Hi there, I'm Laura! Hello, I am Dr. Laura Smith, a clinical psycholgist. I work with all sorts of people who want to live a more content and fulfilling life. Primarily, I specialize in anxiety and mood disorders. However, I also treat people suffering from past traumatic events, people who have who are under stress, relationship issues, and those with attention problems. My approach I am trained as a cognitive behavioral therapist. In addition, I have training in transdiagostic treatment, dialectical behavioral therapy, problem solving, cognitive processing therapy, and behavior therapy. I also help client look discover their own values and lead a value driven life. That approach is consistent with ACT or acceptance and commitment therapy. Another skill I bring as a psychologist is practical experience with helping people solve everyday problems. My focus In the past, I've worked with kids and adults. However, I find that virtual therapy is more effective in helping adults. I like working with all adult populations from young to old. My communication style I tend to be very nonjudgmental. Most clients feel very comfortable talking to me. My sessions range from serious and deep to laughing and smiles. I love to hear stories and am able to take anothers perspective and understand where they are coming from. My journey to mental healthcare I was the kid that everyone came to with their problems. I began my career teaching emotionally disturbed kids. From there I became a school psychologist, then later a clinical psychologist. I love seeing clients moving through stages of change. Nothing could more satisfying than guiding a client to improved mental health. My goals for you I am very explicit in setting goals with clients. It might take a couple of sessions, but somewhere in the information, we must collaborate and find goals for therapy. With some clients, it's getting out of bed in the morning, with others, it's an existential crisis to muddle through.
