Patient reviews for Leonard Citron, LMHC
I’ve been working with Leonard for about two months and I would absolutely recommend him for anyone looking to overcome negative thought patterns or outlooks. Leonard has taught me some very useful tools for managing anxiety, stress, or anything else detracting from the quality of my life. He’s teaching me the framework for managing my mental health outside of therapy so I won’t need to come see him indefinitely week after week. He’s kind and compassionate but also uses a logical approach to challenge negative beliefs or perspectives that may be prohibiting me from living my best life. Not to mention his office is beautiful and comfortable. If you need help changing negative behaviors, go see Leonard.
Lenoard instantly "got it" with me, unlike *every* therapist experience I've had before him (I'm 52 and gay and have lived in NYC twenty years - I've seen more than my share)! Every moment with Leonard was a thoughtful one. He's not one of those "how does that make you feel" on repeat kind of therapists. He gave me relevant and topical things to read. Asked the right questions. Without him I'd not have been able to sustain my first real relationship as long as I did, and sanely leave it too when quite simply it was out of gas. Learned a lot about myself in the process.
Damien was awesome! Very knowledgeable and understanding in explaining some of the issues I am working through.
Leonard is extremely easy to talk to, understanding an nonjudgemental. He approaches everything in a very logical way, and encourages his patients to do the same. He provides his patients with helpful tools to manage anxieties and stress and overcome negative thinking. I would highly recommend Leonard and his team to anyone who is serious about using therapy to improve their mental wellbeing.
Been working with Leonard for a year now, and he has always been extremely well-mannered and professional. Easy to talk to and offers practical and direct feedback and advice. Most of our sessions consist of identifying an issue in my life and working to create a plan on how to better process and cope with it. I never was one to participate in therapy, however Leonard has made it an enjoyable, if not necessary part of my weekly routine. Would for sure recommend his practices for anyone with varying degrees of anxiety, frustrations, or even just someone who needs an emotional outlet.
This was my first therapy with Dr. Citron, and my first exposure to Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Citron always showed an understanding for my situation, and was able to give concrete advice and exercises. The effects are almost immediate and I have been able to steadily improve my situation due to Dr. Citron's help. The therapy sessions take place in a beautiful new office and I always look forward to the next one.
I have had the pleasure of working with Leonard for a few months now. He is not only brilliant but has taught me unique and necessary coping skills with the everyday facets of life. We continuously work together to help improve my overall well being, while working on my consciousness and be able to to have clarity when put in tough situations. He is amazing!!!!!
Very insightful. Leonard made me feel instantly relaxed and calm which meant I was able to talk about some tough periods in my life. The human touch and task setting really helped me to get better. I now live a much happier life as I have the tools to handle the tough times.
After I confirmed the appointment, they informed me that I am not going to see Dr. Citron, but another therapist instead. I thought it's probably okay and had scheduled three appointments with the therapist. First one went okay, he seems nice, listening and patient, felt a little rushed but understandable. Second one, the therapist had the time double booked and tried to reschedule within less than 24 hours notice, but eventually I get to keep my slot as I did schedule it first. And the third one canceled with 30 minutes notice. The therapist had also remembered my name wrong in the email communication. If one or two of the things happened, it's fine. But adding all up, I am not convinced that this is the professional I should keep seeing. I usually don't give people bad reviews, and I feel sorry for doing so this time.
Wonderful experience. I felt very comfortable and welcomed, I will definitely be back.
Leonard's approach is entirely focussed on results, which worked exceptionally well for me. I was able to efficiently address the areas I was concerned about, and improve other areas of my life along the way. Now that the initial problems are addressed, we are on more of a maintenance schedule which works very well to keep things healthy and work through new issues as they come up.
My work with Dr. Citron has exceeded expectation. He is approachable, knowledgeable, empathetic and has helped me craft a completely new mindset when it comes to blocks I've had for years. He is a wonderful listener and truly digests information quickly and effectively. In a reasonably short period, he has worked to understand me so well, he is able create and offer helpful solutions for challenges I would never have considered. I highly recommend him and look forward to continuing my work with him.
Leonard Citron has educated me to live happier and with less anxiety. I’m a 33-year-old male who has lived on a combination of drug and ‘talk therapy’ since I was 14; I became frustrated with free-association complaining on doctor’s couch. Leonard taught me Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy via tapes, anecdotes, books, rules and steps that I could activate outside of his office. I consider my sessions with Leonard classes. If you study with him, it is an education that will liberate you to live happier with less stress. Growing up, we are taught math and history, but nobody teaches us how to deal with problems, fears and looping thoughts. Leonard has a basic curriculum in place to call things by their names — a system to sort things out on your own. I’ve stopped biting my nails, a lifelong habit. I’ve stopped smoking. I fall asleep faster. I take risks. My relationships are fun and lighter — not because I’ve unloaded my stress onto Leonard — because Leonard gave me a process.
I thought Leonard was terrific. Reading these reviews were helpful so I can't help but to say thank you to those wrote before me. It was my first experience in 'therapy' and would highly recommend this office.
Thrilled with Leonard's care. Three things pop out: 1) Professionalism; 2) Dedication; 3) Respect. 1) Professionalism: His office is lovely, he is very discreet with privacy, and after 10 months of working with him I never once had to wait for my appointment. You are not just another client in the appointment book - he remembers what is talked about session to session wish shocking memory. Also, while he operates on a cash-pay system up from, his office will take care of submitting reimbursement for several insurance plans (check to see if yours is one). 2) Dedication: Most counselors "talk" about getting their patients well, but Leonard means it. He worked with me to identify my real challenges (note, not necessary what I came to him for!) and to create a plan to address those challenges. None of this "sit and talk about childhood" nonsense. Our sessions were about identifying today's challenges and working on real ways to manage them. Getting to the "end" of therapy was bittersweet for me - because I appreciated our sessions so much. Perhaps I'll need his care again, but for now I'm emotionally solid and he was sincerely pleased with that outcome even though it meant a client is leaving him. 3) Respect: There are no airs of superiority, no hints of judgement with Leonard. He also paces sessions and "the work" according to a client's appetite for it. In my case, I craved "something to work on" outside of our sessions so he provided me resources to read/consider. I imagine that's not what everyone needs/wants, but the fact that he would extend himself to provide materials and allow me to do my own work was very respectful of my appetite and capacity to change. I cannot say enough good things about Leonard's approach and care. If you are looking to really make a positive change in your life, then "choice 1" is to work with Leonard and he will guide you on how to empower your life path from there.
My fears and anxiety were put to rest immediately upon meeting Dr. Citron. Very easy to talk to, great listener, did not feel like I had to hold back and felt so much better about the process and myself after our initial "intake" meeting.
Leonard is fantastic. A true student of psychology, his approach towards therapy is extremely well studied and has proven highly effective for me. With Leonard, you focus not merely on the external catalyst for negative thinking (an angry spouse/parent/friend, for example), but also on your internal reaction to that catalyst. True relief, I have found, comes only through addressing these internal reactions. I've learned so much over my meetings with Leonard. He is versed in a seemingly never-ending supply of strategies to help silence negative thinking, and shift focus to the positive. Furthermore, he is always calm, professional, and exceedingly easy to talk to. I highly, highly recommended Leonard to anyone struggling with anxiety or any other form of negative thinking.
I spent over two years working with Leonard, and have nothing but praise for him. Leonard will inspire you to be the better person you know you want to be, but can't seem to figure out how, and then he will help you take the steps to actually becoming that person. I have seen many mental health professionals in my life, and Leonard is by far the most effective. He is caring, smart, and maintains excellent boundaries, all of which come together to make a meaningful impact that I will never forget
Leonard strongly believes in the schools of thought that he works to apply, and I like that even at his level he's still actively learning and training himself in new areas of therapy - it shows a genuine passion for the field and for helping people. Leonard brought a level of practicality and structure to our sessions, but there was also an underlying compassion that tied everything together. He always appeared relaxed and prepared, and I never felt rushed. I appreciated Leonard’s challenges in terms of me setting the agenda, defining goals, and reading or listening to supporting materials. I do feel that this approach required some higher functioning on my part in the midst of depression, and that without my previous therapeutic experiences I would have struggled more on the path to discovery. However, out of the numerous therapists I’ve worked with Leonard has been the most effective, and the only one that I felt was actively working to get me out of therapy.
From the very start, Leonard provided me with a road map of how I can go about meeting my goals. I felt Leonard was really there for me and was focused on helping me find solutions to my problems. He is warm, empathic and charming. I’m very glad I found him and highly recommend him.
Leonard was very easy to talk to and created a very safe and comfortable environment for our sessions. I really appreciated the extra audio books that he provided that I could listen to between visits. With Leonard's help, I was able to work through my concerns way faster than I had expected! Highly recommended
I am writing this review only because I chose Dr Citron based on the multitude of 5 star stellar reviews he had on zocdoc. I am sad to say that my experience with Leonard was an extremely disappointing first foray back into therapy after a 10 year hiatus. I found him cold and distant... visibly uninterested in my case. After just 45 minutes he made a few pretty firm conclusions about my personality and referred my to another therapist who I would soon find out was 7 months pregnant and not accepting new clients. Leonard never checked in again and I find that extremely unprofessional especially given my specific circumstances.
I highly recommend Leonard. He is patient, empathetic, and congenial. Most importantly, he has helped me make concrete strides in a relatively short period of time. I have always struggled with anger issues and he has helped me break down the thinking that goes into the emotions and start to rewrite the thought track. His approach is extremely logical - if that appeals to you, as it does to me, then this may be a good fit. I also appreciate that he is goal-oriented - he's trying to get you better, not take your money every week forevermore.
Leonard's approach is results driven and practical. His ability to reframe situations and provide solid actionable advice is amazing. Also, he is not there to waste your time - if there is no need for frequent visits he adjusts. I highly recommend Leonard!
Leonard is truly a fantastic professional therapist. From the moment I began with him, he thoughtfully helped developed a strategy for my progress and was such a pleasure to work with over the last several months. His philosophy is to provide patients with approachable and practical tools four everyday life...and it works! I'm so pleased with my success under his guidance. He is positive, intelligent, personable, and always professional. I highly recommend him.
I am always a little skeptical of overly positive reviews, however, after meeting Leonard for a consultation, he is as good as his reputation suggests. I felt very comfortable with Leonard and highly recommend him. It took me a while to find the right psychologist and I'm glad I've finally found Leonard. I'm looking forward to our future sessions.
Leonard has helped me greatly in identifying and working on a number of issues relating to anxiety, relationships, and self-esteem. He has a very conversational, compassionate approach that makes it easy to talk to him, and his sessions center around identifying realistic, individually-tailored change strategies, without pressure or judgment. My time with him has allowed me to take responsibility for my own problems and do the hard work necessary to grow a great deal as a person. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Leonard is the best. I've seen therapists before, but nothing really came out of those appointments. Dr. Leonard, on the other hand, completely changed my life. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, he worked with me and gave me the tools I needed to stop having panic attacks, and lead a more peaceful life. He is compassionate, supportive, easy to talk to, and always helpful. I can't recommend him highly enough.
Mr. Citron is a true professional and a master of his craft. I highly recommend him and I look forward to our next visit.
Leonard was great. He honestly wanted to help me and made it very clear what his objectives would be and made it clear what my responsibilities would be. I would highly recommend him to people seeking a counselor who are ready to fix their problems.
I've been seeing Leonard for a few months now and I'm so incredibly grateful that I found him. He's incredibly easy to talk to, very relatable, and, most importantly, strives to collaborate with you. He also succeeds at challenging you while remaining understanding and supportive. I look forward to every session and leave feeling 100 times better than when I came in.
The best therapist I've had. Period. The personal growth I experienced during my therapy with Leonard went far beyond what I thought possible. Yes, the work we did on the specific circumstances of my life was helpful. But the new tools, methods, and teachings Leonard shared with me about my own thinking was transformative. Leonard was clear from the beginning that our goal was to teach me to think more clearly for myself about life. And that's exactly what I've experienced. I would recommend Leonard to anyone who wants to learn how to live a more rewarding life. Plus, he's warm, caring, dependable and funny.
Leonard is an incredibly professional and helpful psychotherapist. He is understanding, and his advice has significantly improved my mental health. He suggested practical tools that I could employ on a daily basis. These tools helped challenge my unhealthy way of thinking in a manner that was still comfortable for me. I highly recommend Leonard.
Leonard is absolutely amazing. His treatment plan is geared towards actual treatment. I know this seems obvious, but many therapists are passive and the sessions feel like venting parties. With Leonard, he helps get right to the core of the issue and creates a plan with you on how to actively improve. Leonard pinpoints behaviors and patterns of thinking that contribute to the issue and gives tangible and simple ways to begin altering that behavior. I left every session feeling energized and encouraged to work on the things we laid out together. It's very clear that Leonard's first priority is getting you on a clear path as soon as humanely possible. This results in many of his patients seeing him for a few weeks/months and then not returning- which is the whole point! He actually helped. There's no need to keep returning month after month year after year, because he gets you up and running on your own very quickly. I would recommend Leonard to everyone who is honestly looking for a positive change in their life. He's your guy. I'm very grateful for how much he's helped me grow as a person.
Leonard is great, he's very professional and caring. He listens to my needs and has been great at helping me to set goals and meet them. I never have to wait long in his office to be seen, and he's very accommodating to my schedule even when I'm running late. I would definitely recommend him!
Leonard made me feel safe and comfortable right from the start. He was very empathetic and extremely attentive.
Great therapist and explains in great detail the approach
My first time with a mental health professional. Leonard made the experience relaxing, and productive. We focused on how to get results, this gave me great hope that I can overcome my problems. Highly recommend
Leonard is excellent! He was very professional: I found him rather knowledgeable and felt he genuinely cares. I'm glad I found Leonard Citron and I would highly recommend him.
I just had my first session with Dr. Citron and was thoroughly impressed. He is sharp, thoughtful and made me feel comfortable straight away. I highly recommend him!
Leonard is a highly competent and empathetic practitioner of CBT and has helped me through some extremely challenging times. I have had a very good experience with him and have recommended him to others as a result.
Leonard Citron was very easy to talk to and definitely rush through the appointment. He was very knowledgeable and provided great suggestions and set forth a very clear plan. I highly recommend.
Dr. Citron is very kind, empathetic, and caring. He is a very good listener and has an excellent way of making you feel comfortable. His method is results oriented. He helps you to find concrete solutions to your problems. I highly recommend him.
Having seen many therapists I was pleasantly surprised as to how comfortable i was and how he listened to exactly what i was trying to communicate. I'll be back.
