Psychotherapist
VA
Hello! I am Lisa Panelo, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Virginia. I provide mental therapy online via secure video via telehealth. Over the last 25 years, I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient, telehealth, home and community-based, and residential-based treatment settings. My preferred setting has been outpatient therapy working 1:1 with individuals where we can focus specifically on your needs, and you’ve recognized that things could be better and you are ready to ask for help. As a telehealth provider, clients have the convenience to connect for sessions from their own home or other private setting, without worry of transportation time traveling to an office. Are you experiencing a sense of isolation, or feeling like no matter what you do, things just aren’t working out how you planned? Feeling sad, anxious, or overwhelmed can be difficult to manage. I work with women and men who are stuck in cycles of anxiety, stress, depression, and emotional exhaustion—those who wake up already overwhelmed, second-guess every decision, or feel like they’re barely holding it together. I also specialize in supporting individuals navigating the hidden grief of infertility, the emotional rollercoaster of IVF, and the complex realities of adoption—offering space to process guilt, anger, fear, and hope without pressure or judgment. Maybe you’re working toward a goal but feel discouraged, exhausted, or stuck. Life changes—expected or not—can stir up intense emotions. When those feelings start to interfere with your daily life or your sense of fulfillment, it’s okay to seek support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in taking a whole-person approach to therapy — understanding not just the challenges, but the full context of your life. I work with individuals facing a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, infertility, grief, and adoption-related experiences. Having personal experiences in these areas allows me to relate to clients more than training alone.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After booking an initial appointment, you will receive via welcome emails with links to secure systems, where you will be requested to provide payment information for any copayment or deductibles that are required as identified by your insurance, as well as intake forms to complete prior to the first session. The forms will include our practice policies, including notice of cancellation fees if session is cancelled or no show with less than 24hr notice, standard consent forms, and initial questionnaires. During our initial session, we will review the reason that you are seeking therapy, review your prior history, and identify your initial goals that you are seeking therapy to help overcome. We will review any questions you may have about me as your therapist, and explore whether I am the best fit for you to continue as your therapist to work towards your goals and schedule the next session. If reviewed that I am not the best fit, I will be happy to provide you with referrals for other providers who may be a better match. If decided to continue therapy together, we will discuss scheduling, usually one clinical hour weekly, sometimes moving sessions to every other week, and plan to continue in next sessions to review treatment plan steps to help you reach your goals. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply feeling like every day is a struggle, therapy can offer relief, clarity, and a path forward. Let’s talk. Together, we can explore what’s weighing you down and find steps toward healing, balance, and greater happiness. Take the first step by booking your first session today.
