“Macaul is an attentive, analytical, and considerate therapist. She listens thoughtfully and provides insights without judgment. Over the past two years, I've made more progress in therapy with Macaul than I had in sevral years prior. She has gone above and beyond for me, sometimes sending me articles and other resources she's found that reminded her of something we discussed during a session to help me continue to improve. For example, I had told her how much I missed participating in a certain activity after the pandemic and how lonely I had been feeling, so she took the initiative to find groups and clubs I could join to meet new people while doing that activity—when I told her I had joined one of the groups, I could tell she was genuinely happy for me and pleased that I was taking steps to feel better. Macaul's support has made an enormous impact for me, and I am so grateful for that. I am happy to recommend her to anyone who is thinking about therapy.”

Getting to know Macaul Hodge

I have experience working with a wide range of clients of varying ages and backgrounds. I have worked with clients suffering from an array of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, and suicidality. I support individuals, couples, and families in confronting their challenges and help them make positive changes within themselves. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, and an EdM in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work to help clients gain awareness of their self-concept and how they experience the world. Through integrative approaches, clients learn new ways of thinking that promote mental well-being. By developing insight into themselves, clients gain self-confidence, the ability to show up in their relationships, and the capacity to make change toward creating a fulfilling life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions can look different based on what you are bringing into the room. We may spend the session talking through an event or problem you are facing. In this case, my role is to support you in processing your feelings, gaining clarity, and finding a way forward. If facing specific symptoms, our focus will be on learning skills and coping mechanisms to make your everyday easier. A couples session may be geared toward a singular problem, or an ongoing process of improving communication and connection. Using an individualized approach, each session will be tailored so you get what you need out of therapy.
