Getting to know Magdalena Lopez

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I bring over a decade of experience supporting individuals through profound life transitions, emotional overwhelm, trauma, and identity exploration. My therapeutic approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR principles, and a deeply person-centered perspective. I integrate mindfulness, somatic awareness, and eclectic, individualized interventions to meet each client exactly where they are. I believe therapy is a collaborative, transformative space where safety, curiosity, and compassion guide the work. Clients working with me can expect a supportive environment to explore intrusive thoughts, grief, anxiety, burnout, and the stories that keep them stuck. Together, we gently shift from self-doubt to clarity, from survival to intention, and from avoidance to meaningful action aligned with personal values. My focus is helping clients reconnect with their inner wisdom, build emotional resilience, and cultivate a life rooted in authenticity, self-trust, and purpose. I show up as both a skilled clinician and a grounded human being—offering presence, empathy, and evidence-based guidance as clients create lasting change from the inside out.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you’re stepping into a space where your experiences, identity, and emotions are treated with respect, curiosity, and compassion. I don’t expect perfection—I expect honesty, humanity, and a willingness to explore your inner world at a pace that feels safe for you. I integrate ACT, CBT, EMDR-informed techniques, mindfulness, and somatic awareness to help you reconnect with your strengths, values, and sense of self. Therapy with me is collaborative: I won’t tell you who to be, but I will guide you toward understanding your patterns, practicing self-trust, and creating change that aligns with the life you want to build. You can expect: A grounded, non-judgmental presence. I show up authentically so you can, too. A trauma-informed, culturally aware environment. Your lived experiences and identity matter. Support in navigating intrusive thoughts, anxiety, grief, trauma, and burnout. Gentle but honest feedback. I will challenge the stories that keep you stuck, while staying attuned to what feels safe and doable for you. A values-based approach. We work toward meaning, purpose, and emotional clarity—not just symptom reduction. Room for both structure and intuition. I bring evidence-based tools, but I also honor your pace, your nervous system, and your lived wisdom. My hope is that sessions feel like a balance of relief, insight, and empowered action. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you arrive—together, we create a path toward healing, growth, and self-connection.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A session with me is grounded, supportive, and centered on your real needs in the moment. We begin with a brief check-in to help you settle into the space—sometimes using grounding or mindfulness so your mind and body can arrive together. This creates a safe starting point for honest exploration. From there, we identify the focus for the day. You may come in with something specific, or I may help you discover what’s showing up underneath the surface. My role is to stay attuned, curious, and collaborative as we move through your internal experiences. The core of our session involves exploring your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and the stories your mind has created over time. I draw from ACT, CBT, person-centered therapy, somatic awareness, and EMDR-informed strategies to help you understand patterns without judgment. Together, we make space for the hard emotions while strengthening the parts of you that want clarity, grounding, and relief. We also connect your insights to your values—what matters most to you, who you want to be, and how you want to show up in your life. This helps shift therapy from “fixing symptoms” to building meaning, self-trust, and emotional resilience. I may offer mindfulness skills, cognitive reframing, emotional regulation tools, or gentle challenges to help you see yourself and your options more clearly. Before we close, we take a moment to integrate the work. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of what you discovered, what felt important, and what you may want to practice or notice between sessions. We end with grounding, affirmation, or intention so you leave feeling supported and centered. Overall, sessions with me feel like a balanced space—compassionate, reflective, and gently challenging. My goal is for you to feel safe, understood, and empowered as you build the life you want to live.

Magdalena has already helped me so much! She tailors her practice to each client so you're getting the help you deserve!
I feel so blessed to have found such a great therapist, as Magdalena Lopez. She was easy to connect with and ask questions, quick to respond, and so convenient to schedule with. She established rapport with my daughter in the first session, which I know is not always easy. My daughter looks forward to their sessions and the important work they do together and we both are so appreciative to have such professional support during these almost teen years and times of transition. I cannot recommend her services enough.
