Getting to know Margaret Geroe

I want to start by saying kudos to you for putting yourself out there and looking for a therapist. Starting can be one of the hardest steps. My name is Maggie, and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I received my Bachelor of Psychology and Human Development from Virginia Tech and my Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I began my career with extensive experience in hospital social work, but I have also worked in nonprofits, local community service boards, and started my journey by volunteering with a suicide hotline. I like to use a collaborative, strengths-based, holistic approach in my practice. I base many of my approaches on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. This means I focus on you. Together, we explore your strengths and how you can use them in new ways. We consider the full picture by drawing “road maps” that provide a better understanding of your past and goals for your future. I will challenge you to view yourself and others in new ways, encourage you to try new things, and yes, sometimes I will give you homework. I am happy to chat to see if we are a good fit for each other. If not, I'll do my best to help you find someone who is. Finding your therapist is like Goldilocks looking for the right chair-it just doesn't feel right until you find a good fit. Let's see if I'm the right fit for you.
