Margaret (Maggie) Robbins, LP

Psychotherapist
240 Central Park S, Suite 2A, New York, NY
I’m a state-licensed mental health practitioner with over 20 years’ experience treating adults and adolescents in individual talk psychotherapy. I have a master’s in creative-arts psychotherapy and a certificate in psychoanalysis focusing on face-to-face, Interpersonal-Relational work. Like most psychotherapists I’m a generalist. I have extensive experience with bipolar illness, however, and have made it a specialty. Other specialties of mine include spirituality, dissociation, and sexual abuse. My style is to engage verbally—not sit in silence—but I do know how to just listen when that’s what you need. Psychotherapy is not "just talking": recent discoveries in neuroscience have shown that there is something about the encounter with the therapist that creates changes in brain function analogous to the changes that come about with the use of medication. Psychotherapy leads to a clearer sense of who you are at your best, and what the obstacles are to being that person. Therapy can reveal fresh approaches to overcoming those obstacles, big and small.

What should a new client know about working with you?

OUT-OF-NETWORK COVERAGE: I'm not in-network with any insurance companies. However, our sessions will be covered by almost all insurances, on an out-of-network basis IF you have out-of-network coverage. This means that after the deductible, you will be reimbursed at 60% - 80% of the fee. Check with your plan.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer talk therapy. We can include working with artwork if you'd like to. My orientation is Interpersonal-Relational, not Freudian; I can explain more about that if you like, but you'll get the idea as we begin.
