Getting to know Marjorie Scher

******************************************************************************* Expect an immediate outreach via email or phone to confirm your benefit information. If I am unable to reach you, I will need to cancel the appointment. It is important that you understand if your insurance plan requires you to meet your annual deductible when you make an appointment. Please note I do not accept UMR Health Insurance. ******************************************************************************* I have been in private practice for over 15 years, focusing on individual psychotherapy as well as marital and relationship counseling with adults and older adolescents who are working to overcome a variety of personal obstacles. I help clients identify and address patterns of thought and reactions that contribute to anxiety and hopelessness. In my work, I strive to build a trusting relationship that centers on issues such as anxiety, depression, procrastination, avoidance, co-dependence, and communication. I work with clients in both short-term and long-term therapy to resolve pressing concerns. Life transitions can be very challenging in both work and love, and I assist clients in navigating the difficulties and questions that arise during these periods. Additionally, I have experience as a life coach and career counselor. I hold a Master's in Social Work and a Bachelor's degree, both from New York University, which have provided a strong foundation for my clinical practice and counseling approach.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I know that beginning therapy is a difficult step. Clients can expect that I offer an attentive, warm and accepting space for each person to explore their issues. I use an interactive process to help each individual feel safe and comfortable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session I explore why the person came to therapy and clarify what issues or concerns we want to focus on. Together we develop the goals for therapy.

I did not have a positive experience with this provider. During our session, there were instances where I felt judged based on my sharing of vulnerable moments, as evidenced by certain facial expressions and reactions. Moreover, the provider stated that they were unable to help me and would not meet with me further. Unfortunately, the session did not feel like a safe space where I could freely share my concerns and feel understood; instead, it felt like a judgement session.

I didn't gel with this provider. I felt like she didn't listen well or understand me. she spoke very curtly and was not comfortable to interact with. her questions had a judgemental air. she didn't build a rapport

My husband and I have been wanting to see someone together to get through a bunch of extreme life situations and to help deal with our anxieties and communication with one another. We both agree that we found the right person. We both feel heard, understood, and our concerns addressed and are offered tools to move forward more productively. We look forward to the growth we will make and appreciate the time and care taken with us.
