Getting to know Marlene Hickman
Hi there. I'm Marlene, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Florida and licensed in both Florida and New York. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Yeshiva University. I work with young and older adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, loneliness, family issues, relationship challenges, and loss. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy to help you make progress and start feeling better.
With over 15 years of experience, I have been fortunate to work with children, adults-including home-bound individuals-and seniors. Some of my areas of specialization include mood disorders, anxiety, relationship and family issues, reducing depressive symptoms, and strengthening self-esteem.
I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and am a Certified Grief Informed Professional.
What should a new client know about working with you?
You know you better than anyone else and know what you are seeking to improve. You can expect us to spend time talking about how you have been feeling and how it has affected you and me asking questions to better understand why you may be feeling that way in our first session. The first session is about us building that initial connection and helping us plan the next steps of our therapeutic alliance. Each individual is different and by listening to you we will know how to move to forward. Whether you’re continuing or just starting your counseling journey, I very much look forward to working with you and helping you grow.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
