Marta Truchel, MA

Psychotherapist
159 Bleecker St, Ste 2C, New York, NY
I have always been interested in people—what shapes us, why we respond the way we do, and why some experiences stay with us long after they are over. That curiosity is a big part of what brought me to this work. I don’t believe people fit neatly into categories, and I don’t approach therapy as though there is one right way to understand someone. I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, relationship difficulties, life transitions, trauma, and situations that leave them feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward. My style is warm, direct, and engaged. Therapy with me is a conversation. I listen closely, but I also ask questions, point out things you may not have noticed, and challenge you when I think there is something important worth exploring. My background in forensic mental health counseling has shaped the way I understand people facing stress, trauma, relationship challenges, and major changes in their lives. I’m interested in working with people from many different backgrounds and experiences, including first responders and others in high-pressure roles. I recognize that for some people, especially those who are used to being the one others depend on, opening up or asking for support may not come easily. I respect that trust takes time and believe therapy should make room for people to get there in their own way. My approach helps clients become more aware of their emotions, handle difficult moments, and respond in ways that feel more intentional. With couples, I focus on understanding what happens beneath conflict and helping partners communicate more openly and effectively. I earned my Master of Arts in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and provide therapy in both English and Polish.
