Getting to know Matthew Raymond

My experience in the mental health field is wide-ranging, but it all began with seeing my own therapist and learning to accept myself as I am. I know that starting therapy is not without risk, but I also know that you have a right to flourish. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Whitman College and earned my MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Utah, which has deepened my understanding and skills in supporting clients. I work well with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, panic, burnout, self-doubt, and PTSD. I also love working with adolescent boys and young men, LGBTQIA+ clients, neurodivergent adults, creatives, and therapists and other care workers.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach each client with humility, curiosity, respect, and humor--I'm most interested in creating a nurturing environment that allows you trust your innate wisdom. I welcome all of your humanness (laughter, tears, messiness, apprehension, and swears) as we discover what is most true to you and dispose of the stories about yourself that no longer serve you. I commonly draw from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, EMDR, Narrative Therapy, Schema Therapy, and DBT in my work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We will begin the therapy process by discussing your primary concerns and getting to know each other at a pace that feels comfortable and safe. We will collaborate to create a plan for achieving your treatment goals. Sessions are 50-55 minutes long and can include establishing goals or "homework" for the time in between sessions, if you wish.   My greatest hopes for our work together are that you trust yourself more, feel greater personal empowerment, discharge unhelpful stories about yourself, and move closer to the relationships and values that are most important to you.
