What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, Matt utilizes psychodynamic, somatic, internal family systems, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to help clients develop insight, process trauma, and gain greater agency in their lives. He uses an individualized approach to treat anxiety, depression, substance use, and relationship issues. Matt has significant experience working with adolescents, adults, LGBTQIA individuals, artists, and athletes, and has conducted group therapy for men and adolescent boys exploring issues related to masculinity. As an avid surfer, skateboarder, and artist, Matt believes that creative physical expression can be a powerful resource in the healing process. His background in these communities and practices helps him to connect to clients with a variety of passions and interests.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I meet with each potential client for a complimentary 20 minute intake call prior to meeting with them to determine if having a session is appropriate. During this call we will go over your goals for treatment and have a holistic conversation about what is going on in your life. If we determine that we are a good fit, we will have an initial session during which we will explore your past and present more deeply, and begin to collaboratively develop an approach to working towards your goals. My style as a therapist is warm and open, and I will work with you to figure out what it is you want to get out of therapy.
