Getting to know Maurice Nicoleau

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy with adults across New York State. I trained at NYU and have advanced postgraduate training at the Derner Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy at Adelphi University. I also lead behavioral health services in a New York City hospital department of psychiatry. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship patterns, and the lasting effects of early experience. I have particular experience with executives and leaders, people of color, and people recovering from religious trauma.
What should a new client know about working with you?
This is depth work for people who want more than symptom relief. If you keep running into the same patterns in relationships, at work, or in how you see yourself, we’ll look at where they come from and why they persist, so change can last. It isn’t coaching or a quick fix. Most clients meet with me weekly over many months. I’m out-of-network at $250 per session and provide superbills, and many PPO plans reimburse a meaningful portion.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
After booking, you’ll receive a welcome email from my practice with brief intake forms. Our first appointment is a 45-minute consultation. We’ll talk about what brings you in, your history, and what you hope will change, and decide together whether this work is the right fit, including the time and cost involved. If we continue, we meet weekly at a consistent time. Sessions are open-ended: you bring what’s on your mind, and together we come to understand, emotionally as well as intellectually, the patterns underneath it. Evening and Saturday telehealth appointments are available.

Session fee: $250 for 45 minutes. I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. I provide a superbill after each session, which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a meaningful portion of out-of-network therapy. If you’re unsure of your coverage, I’m glad to help you check your out-of-network benefits before we begin. Payment is due at the time of each session.
