“Este es el review que escribí para Salima. Avísame que piensas: Salima’s counseling changed our marriage. My husband and I have always loved each other, but the day-to-day was tough. Through our time with her, we learned how to communicate with more compassion and openness, recognize our triggers, manage conflict, and respect each other’s boundaries. What stood out most about Salima was her professionalism, deep listening, and her thoughtful approach to supporting us as a multicultural couple. She helped us understand how caring for ourselves allows us to show up better for each other, and she equipped us with tools that truly strengthened our relationship. After two years of working together, we feel ready to continue this journey on our own, carrying forward everything we learned from her with gratitude.”

Getting to know Mbayame (Salima) Ndoye

The provider is a “Marriage & Family Therapist" and their license number is 37FI00243100. Hello! My name is Mbayame, but I like to go by Salima (Sah-Lee-Muh). My practice does not take insurance, so patients should review my prices before booking. As a psychotherapist with a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercy College, my work is driven by the deeply held belief that people get better. Every person has the ability to heal, make connections, and deserves healthy relationships. I can guide you through life's challenges with compassion and respect. My style is interactive and engaging, and I work collaboratively with you to promote the growth and change you desire. Areas of practice include anxiety, depression, mood-related disorders, relationships, individuals, multicultural families, and LGBTQ-related issues. I provide support to improve self-esteem, boundary and communication issues, stress management, and adjustment to life's cycles. I use an integrative approach combining various psychotherapeutic methodologies and techniques, such as Gottman, emotionally focused, narrative, solution-focused, and hope-focused therapy from a client-centered systemic perspective. The methods and techniques I use depend on what works best with your particular beliefs, values, and needs. It can be difficult to reach out; know that a relationship with the right therapist for you can be eye-opening and healing. I welcome you to come in, answer your yearning for growth, and get closer to the person or couple you want to be-to improve the quality of your relationships with yourself and others. I am bilingual and also offer therapy in French.

What should a new client know about working with you?

With my work, you can expect a nonjudgmental space, to process thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. While making sure clients feel fully seen and accepted, I will gently challenge, and help them expand their perspectives, in order to facilitate growth and change. Exploring/processing past experiences and boundaries with others, can help clients become more aware of the obstacles that prevent them from leading more satisfying lives and improving their relationships. Together we will explore concrete coping skills.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At the first session, I will complete a brief intake form while listening to the needs and goals of the client. Subsequent sessions include a back-and-forth conversation in which the client will gain insights into their thoughts and behaviors, and be guided to make positive changes in their life. I believe that each session presents a specific problem to be solved on the way to achieving your goals Homework is necessary after some sessions to infuse the changes into the client's life and start to create new, adaptive, and positive habits.

My partner was very apprehensive and she was wonderfully patient and trimmed her approach to really suit her. I was hopeful we’d find someone who was well versed in lesbian couples and our unique dynamics too and she was really sensitive and disarming. It was only our first appointment but I’m so grateful we picked Salima. She’s a gem.
