Getting to know Medorie Petersen-Woodburn

I am a licensed social worker who completed an undergraduate degree in Social Science at Stetson University in 2018 and completed their master's in social work at New York University in 2022. I am committed to assisting clients on their journey to self-actualization, free from personal and worldly pressure. I focus on a strength-based approach in client led therapy. I believe the client is in the driver seat, and it is my job to assist in reaching their destination. I am committed to creating balance within the therapeutic space where clients feel warm, supported, and empowered. I believe in assessing the ways clients are impacted by their environments and impact their environments through a social justice and trauma informed lens.

What should a new client know about working with you?

** Initial appointments are free consultation phone calls with our intake coordinator. On that call, you’ll be able to go over insurance details and get answers to any questions you have. If it feels like a great fit, the intake coordinator will get you scheduled for your first therapy appointment while you’re on the call. ** I approach the work through an empathetic, grounded, and social justice lens. I hold a mirror to your life and together we highlight the strengths, determine and make the changes that you'd like to see, while acknowledging and addressing the present challenges. You are the expert of your life and already have all the tools within you to succeed. I just have the shovel to help you dig them out. I utilize a lot of reflection and humor in my work. I will always push you past your comfort zone, but never past your limit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is to initially build a foundation of trust and support where we both feel like we are starting the work on solid footing of mutual respect and understanding. I believe the stronger the therapeutic relationship, the further we can go. I always invite you to correct me when something doesn't align. I care more about understanding your point and working within your capacity than I do about being "right." With consent and agreement, I assign homework when the work calls for it. The process of healing and self-actualization exist both within and outside of the therapeutic space and I want to make sure I help facilitate your growth in all ways possible.

Medorie Petersen-Woodburn has been such a kind and generous listener and helper along my journey. She offers advice and tools that i've been successfully able to use. Medorie is awesome! She has helped me so much with managing my anxiety. She has encouraged me to put in the work on my own, which has helped me open myself up to new possibilities in life, and has generally changed my outlook for the better. She has been a wonderful copilot in navigating more difficult situations I have encountered in life and has been a generally positive force for me. I will miss having her as my therapist!
