Getting to know Megan Ardagh

Megan Ardagh is a licensed professional counselor and certified Sandtray Therapist specializing in working with children experiencing grief, trauma, and emotional or behavioral challenges. She views her role as both a therapist and a bridge—helping families better understand one another and grow together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Megan utilizes child-centered play therapy, child–parent relationship therapy, and Sandtray therapy. As a child-centered play therapist, she provides a safe, secure, and trusting relationship that allows your child to lead sessions and express themselves freely. The goals for your child will include developing a richer emotional vocabulary, improving self-regulation skills, increasing self-esteem, and gaining a better understanding of the connection between actions and consequences. Child–parent relationship therapy is based on the same principles as child-centered play therapy, while involving caregivers more directly to strengthen the caregiver–child relationship and support growth at home. In Sandtray therapy, Megan will use a tray filled with sand and carefully selected objects to help your child represent their inner world. This approach creates space for your child to explore and express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a nonverbal way, without the need to rely on language.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Megan will begin by meeting with you as the caregiver without your child present, allowing space for you to share concerns and discuss the challenges your child is experiencing. She will then meet your child and complete diagnostic assessments to determine your child’s DSM diagnosis. Following diagnosis, Megan will schedule weekly individual therapy sessions, with the total number of sessions tailored to your child’s unique needs. During a typical session, your child will be invited to lead and choose from a variety of thoughtfully selected toys or participate in Sandtray activities. Megan provides a safe and supportive environment where children can express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences while building emotional vocabulary, self-regulation skills, self-esteem, and an understanding of the relationship between actions and consequences. Every five sessions, Megan will meet with you to review progress, discuss challenges, and offer continued support.
