“My experience with Melissa Donovan was nothing short of amazing. She was so professional and honest with me which helped me grow so much. She really helped me unpack and address everything I was going through and supported me through it all. She created a non-judgmental and open environment which really helped me be vulnerable to get the most out of our sessions. She taught me how to work through my emotions and I am so grateful for everything I learned during my time seeing her. I would definitely recommend her as a therapist! ”

Getting to know Melissa Donovan

Everyone’s journey to therapy is unique. You may feel overwhelmed by the world around you. People in your life may have expressed concern over patterns in your behavior. Or, perhaps you’re bottling up feelings of anxiousness, depression, anger, loneliness, numbness, or dissatisfaction. These are all valid reasons to seek out therapy, and that is where I can help. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College, City University of New York, which equips me with the skills and knowledge to support you through your challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our work together, I’ll provide you with a space that is safe, supportive, and understanding. We’ll determine your goals, then unpack the dynamics that feed into your current challenges. I’ll help you process difficult feelings, identify negative thoughts, and provide you with the toolkit you need to sustain your goals independently. We’ll track and assess progress to learn what works and what doesn’t.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is direct, compassionate, individualized, and authentic. We’ll utilize strategies derived from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interview (MI), and Modern Attachment Theory (among others) while identifying your strengths to aid you in overcoming your obstacles and realizing your full potential. I look forward to meeting with you!

More information on payments and coverage

I am an In-Network provider with Northwell Direct Tier 1 plans. We provide out-of-network billing support for reimbursement for all other clients. If we are not in-network with your plan we will work to get you significant reimbursement for the cost of your sessions. We submit claims on behalf of our patients so that you don’t have to deal with your insurance company. Here’s how works. Before you start therapy we will collect your insurance information, check your insurance benefits, provide you with an estimate of those benefits, and then allow you to make the most educated decision possible about your investment in therapy. If you decide to work with us, we will submit your insurance claims every week and give you access to the portal to check the status of the reimbursements. It is our goal to always remain transparent and to make the process of insurance reimbursements as clear as possible.

I have been in therapy for over 15 years and Melissa is by far the best therapist I have ever worked with. She not only listens to me and validates my feelings, but she has helped me learn how to start managing my emotions. She also holds me accountable for the work I am doing outside of therapy by giving me little assignments/action items. I am grateful to be her patient and highly recommend her to anyone who has benefitted from doing cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy.
Highly recommend working with Melissa!!
Melissa is kind, attentive, energetic, and really cares about her patients' well-being. As a man in my late 20s, Melissa was my first therapist. She helped me work through personal issues I'd struggled with most of my adult life, including anxiety and depression. I'm able to manage day-to-day challenges more effectively thanks to the techniques I learned with Melissa. I'd recommend to anyone seeking mental health counseling.
I have nothing but a positive things to say about Dr. Donovan. She is kind, efficient, understanding and has been/continues to be extremely helpful to me.
