Psychotherapist
MI
My ideal client is someone who is interested in learning how to understand the experiences they have had, how those experiences have affected their functioning and emotional well-being, and how to integrate this insight going forward in order to create "a life worth living" - quote from Marsha Linehan. I have lots of experience working with trauma, including childhood trauma and also trauma connected to adult relationships. I can often identify narcissistic or abusive behavior, even if it is covert or hidden. I can't diagnose anyone I haven't treated; but I can help with how to recognize and respond to that behavior. I also understand the complexities of relationships; it's often hard to just leave leave especially when children are involved. I believe in providing my clients with outside information, including websites, books, podcasts, etc. It's important that you end your work with me with awareness of resources that can support your continued well-being. I've been a parent for a long time; my oldest child is in her 30's so I often have personal experience with various parenting challenges. I'm passionate about supporting parents to be the best they can be for both themselves and their children. I'm also aware of the strong emotions that come out when we feel like we have made mistakes with our children. I will approach your care with compassion and without judgment. I'll do my best to hear you fully. I feel like many or even most "diagnoses" have their roots in trauma and if that trauma can be understood and integrated then healing will follow. You developed coping skills that enabled you survive to this point. You can learn new coping skills that are effective in navigating the life you have now.
