NY
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in Brooklyn, NY. I hold a Master's in Social Work from New York University, a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University, and a Master's in Visual Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. I am currently seeing individuals remotely and at my office in Williamsburg. I offer an eclectic psychodynamic approach to therapy with a relational orientation. I see the therapeutic relationship as one that fosters trust and helps you better understand yourself. I often explore relationship dynamics, family of origin, and past experiences to help illuminate your emotional responses and connections with others. I primarily work with adult individuals but am also receptive to seeing older adolescents.

Getting to know Michael Gray

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in Brooklyn, NY. What should a new client know about working with you?

I am well-versed in providing treatment to individuals with a history of anxiety, depression, trauma, or sexual issues. I also specialize in working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as individuals who identify as kinky or non-traditional in relationship dynamics. I have completed comprehensive trainings in dual diagnosis (substance use and mental health issues), addiction, grief therapy, trauma-focused treatment, body image issues, and I am currently involved in the AASECT certification process for sex therapy which includes continuing education training and workshops focused on sex therapy and specialized supervision by a sex therapist who provides consultation and oversees my work with clients. I also continue to develop my insight into LGBTQ+ issues and participate in a biweekly supervision group with queer/kink/alt sex therapists and I am more than receptive to sharing any information I may have on other community friendly providers for medical services and other issues.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I generally start with a consultation call and based on that interaction I will schedule an intake as your first session. I request that consultation calls be conducted remotely via HIPAA compliant video services, but after this initial call I'm receptive to in-person sessions. If we decide that we will continue working together I ask that individuals try 3-4 sessions to test the therapeutic relationship. I believe very strongly that the therapeutic relationship is important to the work we do and should you decide that you would like to see another profession I welcome you to discuss this and I'm happy to provide alternative referrals. Likewise, if I decide that my treatment specialization does not reflect your needs I will provide external referrals. Sessions are self-directed but I am also engaged in sessions and will ask questions or encourage exploration. Please note that I only conduct weekly sessions unless there are scheduling issues with my availability. Although I work with individuals with chronic health issues, unfortunately my office is not ADA compliant due to not having an entrance ramp or elevator to access my office.
