Getting to know Michael Lowney

Please note that I am an out-of-network provider with all insurances. I can provide you with a superbill to help you obtain reimbursement from your insurance company and am happy to walk you through the reimbursement process so that our sessions are covered by your insurance. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Hunter College. I believe that having the courage to face the parts of ourselves that feel the messiest can be the key to creating more honest and meaningful relationships with ourselves and others. Therapy can help us slow down and notice the way our history informs our actions so that we can make choices that feel more authentic to us. This can be especially challenging when those choices go against mainstream culture or diverge from what we grew up with. While this tension can feel overwhelming, you don't have to navigate it alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a yoga instructor and trauma therapist, I create an environment where you can safely experience your inner world and access your innate capacity to heal while making space for your body’s intuition and wisdom. This process requires a relationship built on trust and mutual respect. I encourage you to come as you are and welcome your truth and vulnerability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am inspired by the healing power of connection and relationship. My goal is to co-create a dynamic built on mutual honesty and respect where you feel safe enough to come as you are and share all parts of yourself. I combine psychodynamic, relational and somatic approaches to tailor the treatment to your specific needs and believe that you already have everything you need to flourish. I hope you feel supported and challenged as we explore who you have been and where you want to go.
