Getting to know Michael Zuch

Hi, I'm Michael. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides trauma-informed and culturally responsive therapy for teens and adults. I help people work through anxiety, panic, trauma, life transitions, identity exploration, dissociation (feeling disconnected from one's body or mind), and relationship concerns. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in genuine human connection. Therapy should feel like a safe place to show up as your full self. I believe psychotherapy should be a place where we not only focus on reducing symptoms (the things we do not want) but also expand your capacity for the things we do want, like joy and connection with others. This is why I take a trauma-informed and nervous system-oriented approach. I work with a wide range of clients, from teens navigating the pressures of school and relationships to adults seeking clarity, stability, and tools for change. I also have specialized experience supporting survivors of trauma and abuse, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and immigrants. My goal is to create an environment where you can reprocess your unique story while also learning practical strategies to help you feel more grounded and connected. I’m a Certified EMDR Therapist with advanced training in somatic, attachment-based, and anti-oppressive approaches. This means I am equipped to help you process past experiences, whether they involve abuse, neglect, or ongoing stress, and move toward relief in the present. Many clients come to me during times of change or uncertainty, looking not just to heal but to grow. Alongside my clinical work, I am a PhD student in Social Work researching mental health equity for immigrant families in need of support. This work informs how I show up as a therapist, recognizing how policies, systems, and cultural environments impact us.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While lasting change takes time, I believe we can take meaningful and active steps right away to reduce suffering and build your capacity for joy, clarity, and connection. My approach is collaborative, warm, and attuned to both your nervous system and your story. I draw from EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment theory, and relational therapy, adapting to what you need most in the moment. I am also very responsive to feedback. One of the greatest gifts a client can offer in therapy is honesty about how they are experiencing both the therapist and the process. I encourage you to share this with me, as it provides valuable insight into what is happening in your nervous system and can be a key to understanding your experiences outside the therapy room. In therapist language, this is called working with “transference.”

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You can expect a space that’s warm, honest, and attuned to what you need—whether that’s slowing down, speaking hard truths, or sharing a laugh. My clients and I often use humor when it helps us connect or breathe a little easier, because therapy doesn’t have to be somber to be meaningful or increase our capacity for connection and joy. Together, we’ll build insight and emotional flexibility, so you can move through the world with more clarity, community, and self-trust. Once clients reach out for a session, we will touch base briefly over the phone in order to make sure I am a good fit for your needs. After that, we get you onboarded.
