Getting to know Michelle Wygant

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 14 years of experience providing outpatient therapy to children, teens, adults, and families. I hold a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Slippery Rock University and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from Liberty University. I also have several years of experience supervising counseling interns and master’s-level clinicians. I specialize in postpartum challenges, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, parenting concerns, and life transitions. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and evidence-based grief treatment across the lifespan. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your individual needs. I integrate person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies, and solution-focused techniques to help you gain insight, build practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. I am committed to providing a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout your healing journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel truly heard and understood. I believe therapy works best when there is a strong, trusting relationship, so I take time to get to know you and what matters most in your life. You won’t be rushed, judged, or pressured. Instead, we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable while still working toward meaningful progress. I balance compassion with structure. That means I will listen deeply and validate your experiences, while also helping you identify patterns, set goals, and build practical tools you can use outside of session. I want therapy to feel helpful—not just like a place to vent, but a place where real growth happens. I draw from person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies, and solution-focused approaches. Together, we’ll explore what’s contributing to your stress or pain, strengthen your coping skills, and work toward feeling more grounded, confident, and in control. If you’re navigating grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, postpartum challenges, parenting stress, or a life transition, I will tailor our work to your specific needs. You can also expect honesty and collaboration. I see therapy as a partnership—you are the expert on your life, and I bring the training and tools to help guide the process. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling supported, empowered, and equipped with strategies that create lasting change. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you start. Showing up is enough. Call (833)-274-heal

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process begins with building a strong foundation of trust and understanding. In our first session, we’ll complete an intake where you’ll have the opportunity to share what brought you to therapy, what you’re currently experiencing, and what you hope to achieve. I’ll ask questions about your background, strengths, and challenges so I can gain a full picture of your needs. This is also your time to ask questions and get a sense of whether the fit feels right. After the initial session, we’ll work together to clarify your goals and create a plan that feels realistic and meaningful. Each session is structured but flexible. We often begin with a brief check-in about your week, current stressors, or any progress you’ve noticed. From there, we’ll focus on a specific topic, pattern, or challenge that connects to your goals. Sessions may include exploring thoughts and emotions, identifying unhelpful patterns, learning practical coping tools, improving communication skills, or processing difficult experiences. I use a collaborative approach, meaning we talk through insights together rather than me simply giving advice. I may gently challenge you at times, but always with care and respect. I also believe therapy should be practical. When helpful, we’ll identify small, manageable steps you can practice between sessions to build momentum and confidence. Throughout the process, we’ll regularly review your goals and adjust as needed. My aim is for each session to feel supportive, productive, and empowering—so you leave feeling clearer, more grounded, and better equipped to navigate your life outside of therapy.
