Micol Bassal, LMSW, is a licensed therapist in New York City working with adults, young adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Micol, a dedicated clinician, strives to build a deep and connected therapeutic alliance with each of her clients using empathy, insight, and skill. Micol utilizes a variety of evidence-based modalities which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed approaches that she uniquely tailors to meet the needs of each of her clients goals. Micol received her undergraduate degree at Stern College for Women at Yeshiva University with a major in Human Services, and subsequently completed her Master’s degree at Wurzweiler School of Social Work with a certification in trauma-informed practice. Micol began her career in community mental health clinics, where she specialized in working with patients struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma related challenges. Within her work in private practice, she continues to support individuals working through trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other mental health concerns across the spectrum. Micol views each client as an expert in their own lives. She believes in the dialectic of creating space for emotional experiences, while never stopping to work towards the achievement of therapy related goals. As a passionate advocate for mental health awareness both in the therapy room and out, her goal is to create a safe space where her clients feel empowered, capable of change, and on the path to creating a life that is experienced as worth living.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy In The City specializes in the treatment of anxiety related disorders (social anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, specific phobias, perfectionism), as well as depression, relationship challenges, and life-transitions. We work with adults, young adults, adolescents, and children.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Thank you for booking an appointment with us! Once your appointment has been confirmed by one of our team members, please complete the following steps prior to attending your session: 1. You will receive our practice documents with new client paperwork. Should you not receive this email from us, please reach out and a member of our team will resend it. 2. You will also receive a form with a link for credit card information, please ensure this is complete prior to your session. 3. After the forms and payment method are provided, you will receive a link with an invitation to attend your remote or in-person session. You will receive the link to attend your session only after all of the steps indicated above are completed. If you have not receive the link to attend your appointment, please reach out to the office directly as a step may have been missed. Our clinicians use CBT and DBT therapeutic models, and take a personal, yet goal oriented approach to therapy. We work closely and collaboratively with outside providers in order to ensure holistic, quality, care is provided throughout our work with each client. Our clinicians equally value genuine care and clinical competence, and strive to help each client find success, meaning, joy, and personal growth in the therapy room, and all contexts of life.
