Getting to know Mnahil Khan

My clients often describe themselves as thoughtful, insightful, and driven, but internally, they may feel disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. Whether you’re coping with anxiety, struggling in your relationships, recovering from past trauma, or navigating a life transition, I offer a collaborative space where healing and growth are possible. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology. I help individuals and couples navigate anxiety, trauma, identity challenges, and emotional overwhelm with clarity, compassion, and evidence-based support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space. I aim to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected, and supported. While therapy can involve deep emotional work, it also includes building insight, developing coping skills, and identifying practical steps toward meaningful change. In addition to my clinical training, my work is informed by my own lived experiences, which give me a deeper understanding of the complexities people carry, whether related to identity, trauma, grief, or life transitions. I strive to hold space in a way that is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and affirming of each person's unique background and story. These experiences help me meet clients with empathy, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to their growth and healing. I use an integrative, evidence-based approach tailored to your needs, drawing from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, psychodynamic insight work, and trauma-informed care. Our work together may include increasing self-awareness, exploring emotional patterns, or building skills to manage anxiety, depression, or relational challenges. Above all, I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I welcome your feedback at every step.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our sessions, you can expect a supportive and structured space where we focus on what matters most to you. The first few sessions typically involve getting to know you exploring your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. I may ask questions to better understand patterns in your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors. This initial phase helps us build a foundation for the work ahead and identify a direction that aligns with your values and needs. As therapy progresses, sessions often include a mix of reflection, skill-building, and deeper exploration. Depending on your goals, we might work on managing symptoms like anxiety or depression, improving relationships, processing past experiences, or navigating major life transitions. I’ll bring in relevant tools from evidence-based approaches, and at times may offer exercises, strategies, or perspectives to try between sessions. That said, I always move at your pace, you’re in control of what we talk about and when. While each session is unique to you, my aim is to provide a consistent space where you feel safe to explore, grow, and gain insight. Some sessions may feel emotionally deep, others more practical, both are valuable. I welcome your feedback along the way so we can adjust the process to best support your progress.

Maya is amazing. She is so insightful and gives lots of action steps as well as provides a great space for processing and healing.
I am extremely grateful for the support and guidance I have received in therapy. My therapist consistently creates a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental environment that allows me to be open and honest. Their insight, patience, and ability to listen deeply have helped me gain clarity, develop healthier coping strategies, and grow both emotionally and personally. I truly appreciate their professionalism and genuine care, and I feel more confident and empowered because of the work we’ve done together.
She is a very good listener. One session in and I already feel more seen than I did with my last therapist. She seems like a therapist that wants to build the therapy around you, instead of providing a cookie-cutter treatment plan.
